A hit that went largely unseen could become a rugby league test case after South Sydney winger Andrew Everingham became the first player to face a shoulder-charge offence.

He faces three weeks on the sideline after he was charged with a grade-two offence when he rushed off his wing and collected North Queensland fullback Matt Bowen in the 63rd minute of South Sydney's 28-10 win over the Cowboys on Friday night.

Parramatta's Fuifui Moimoi was the first player to miss an NRL game after being cited with a grade-one shoulder charge while playing for Tonga against Samoa in April.

Everingham's offence carries a base penalty of 350 carry-over points, but if he pleads guilty he will miss two games.

Melbourne's Billy Slater escaped any charge despite an on-field caution for flying in with his shoulder when trying to prevent Penrith's David Simmons from scoring in the Storm's 12-10 loss to the Panthers on Sunday night. Everingham was one of three players charged with a shoulder charge by the match review committee. Holden Cup players North Queensland's Patrick Kaufusi and Parramatta's Sam Manuleleua are set to miss three weeks and one week respectively following weekend games.

Four NRL players were charged from round-nine action with the fallout from a heated Parramatta and Brisbane match set to result in the suspension of Darcy Lussick and Josh McGuire. The pair were involved in a 48th minute brawl in the Eels' one-point win. Lussick was charged with contrary conduct for fighting, and will miss up to two games, while Brisbane prop McGuire won't miss a game if he takes an early guilty plea on a striking charge.

Penrith's Mose Masoe will be free to play against the Warriors if he pleads guilty to a dangerous contact charge.

Didn't even see this incident.

It seems laughable that Everinghamcan be sidelined for 2-3 weeks for this when Brett Stewart got nothing for a deliberate elbow to the face or Billy Slater shoulder charging Antonio Winterstein knocking him out in round 1.

Looks like the judiciary's keen to get a scalp with the new laws. I'd suggest we try and get it downgraded rather than fight the charge.

It happened fast but it didn't look like a shoulder charge to me..........I'd have to check the replay.

Fight it,it's about time our club showed some guts and took on these peanuts,Slater doesn't even get charged for his shoulder charge on Simmons

All we do is cop it up the backside every time one of our players is in trouble where Hasler,Toovey and stuart start crying wolf and 9 times out of 10 it works the NRL do not like bad publicity they will do anything to calm it down so get into them I say and that's you Richo.

Although I don't think the punishment is fair I actually reckon we'd be better off. I like Evro but he's been arguably our worst the last couple of weeks. And we have a lot of talent in NSW cup that deserves a run especially after how the Bears carved up last weekend.
