I remember thinking all day we’d be playing you in 2005, then Daniel Wagon shot out of the line….on my.

Fair enough on 2016, felt like much less of a rug pull than the Storm and Dogs getting done

I think for 2016 and for me, it was the feeling of betrayal by the club. Which is kind of dumb because it's just footy, but for my club to do that was just the worst. I didn't watch most of that year tbh and for a couple of years I found it really easy to miss games.

Honestly I'm still not as invested as I was before all that

For this Rooster, and many others, it was the 2004 GF. 2003 we lost to a better team, Penrith outplayed us. In 2004, against a team which, whilst by then salary cap compliant, still comprised the same players who been caught as part of the salary cap cheat of 2002, combined with many players self admittedly playing their worst half of football that season in the second half, made it incredibly painful.

I will even go pre NRL era and say 1981 for the Roosters, after finishing as minor premiers after smacking Parramatta in the 2nd last premiership round then not winning a game after that.
In the last premiership round they lost to Wests by 2 pts, hardly a blip at the time as they were already Minor Premiers and would still have the week off,
Playing Parramatta in the Major Semi, a very ill disciplined Easts side kept dropping the ball, game was 0-0 at half time and Easts scored first minutes into the second half and it looked like plain sailing from there but Parramatta scored twice to take the score to 8-5 before Ron Giteau went over in the corner and had a side line kick to win Easts the match and straight into the Grand Final, the kick missed so scores were tied 8-8 at full time and in extra time Parramatta kicked two penalty goals to win 12-8.
The following week Easts probably left their worst performance of the season playing against Newtown, in a really dour match Newtown had the better of play overall and had a 10-5 lead late in the match, still at that point it was still tight and the game could have gone either way, with 7 mins to go Marty Gurr threw a beautiful pass to Steve McFarlane who spilled the pass with no one to beat with the try line in front of him and the chance for Easts to level up and possibly win the match was lost, still there was time left and Easts threw the ball the ball around madly and dropped the ball and the ball was kicked through with Ray Blacklock scoring the match winner 15-5.

They way 1981 ended for Easts was dismal and heartbreaking as they were the dominate team throughout the premiership rounds,

I was only 9 then. So I don't remeber any of that other than when Parra won the comp how big an event that was for everybody out Liverpool/Casula way. My god everybody was a Parra fan except for me.

The liftout in the paper was a cartoon Eel denting a cartoon Jet with Premiers or something on it. Next door neighbour at the time had his garage dedicated to Eels memorbilia.

This

As bad as our record in GFs was from 2000-2010, the only one we lost that we should have won was 2004. Both Brisbane and St George were way better teams (both on the day and as a whole) than us in 2000 and 2010 respectively. Penrith was more a con flip over the season but finished first and were better on the day.

In 2004 we were far and away the better team and bottled it after a strong first half as well.

I would also put forward 2009 as a whole for the roosters but that season ended up changing everything for the good, especially off the field.

Brisbane: 2015 GF finish & golden point, 2023 GF finish
Canberra: 2019 GF six again, Ricky snaps leg 1993, straight sets 2025
Canterbury: 2002 cap, 2006 prelim loss, or the multiple 50+ losses at the start of this decade.
Cronulla: the entire first 49 seasons
Dolphins: missing finals each year despite strong starts to each season
Gold Coast: nothing stands out
Manly: only winning two titles in the 80s and 90s given how good they were
Melbourne: 2010 cap
Newcastle: 2000 prelim
North Qld: Hand of Foran/7 tackles
Parramatta: 2001, 2005, 2009
Penrith: 2014 prelim
St Geo Illa: 1999 GF
Souths: Oct 1999 til July 2002. 2021 GF finish
Sydney: 2004 GF - Crocker tackled by Bobcat
Warriors: Sonny Fai's death; 02 & 11 GF losses
Wests Tigers: too many to list. Losing to the Roosters over 100min in 2011 probably up there

2014 we overachieved being there, I still rate it as one of my favorite years as a supporter. It's not like anyone other than Souffs were winning that year anyway. Need a penalty? Get a Burgess to drop it cold - Success!!

NRL era would be the 2020 GF and all time 1992 post June 21st.
