Everything 2027 Ashes

Am seriously gonna go to this , its a lock, so going to start some planning/research from now on

At this stage would like to spend 6 weeks there. Dont have to get to every test, but Lords is a must

Anyone who has been to an ashes series over there @King-Gutho94 and others , and tips/advice

Would you do a guided tour or just plan yourself
Decent hotels/places to stay within 20km of the test grounds
Good feed/watering holes where Aussies hang out?
Worthwhile day or overnight trips to do outside of test match days


Venues have been announced for 2027:

• Edgbaston, Birmingham
• Lord’s, London
• Trent Bridge, Nottingham
• The Ageas Bowl, Southampton
• The Oval, London

The makeup of our squad will be interesting.
We most likely dont have Smith, Marsh, Marnus, Carey, Hazlewood, Starc and maybe Lyon.
If fit and bowling well, love Haze to be there, merely for thsoe conditions

Ill be most likely be going back in 2027.

I want to do the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the US so i think 2026 the Soccer /2027 Cricket well that's the plan anyway.

Hopefully i win Lotto and just be holidays all year round.

Probs do the Southampton test haven't been to South of England yet.

I have been to Nottingham for a few day stop over in 2019 getting back to London and done Edgbaston/Lords tests in 2019 and Manchester tests in 2023.

There didn't seem much in Nottingham to do tbh. Might be different during a Test match full of Aussies.

Look i went with 1 different mate both times for the cricket and we stayed in hostels to keep the budget down so i could spend a few more week overseas. So hotel wise i cant really comment on. The Hotel rooms i have stayed in England though are pretty small.

I kept the tour groups to Contiki's around other parts of Europe and done the UK stuff with friends.

In 2019 we had a few mates over there that didn't go the cricket so in London we just went out with the hostel and partied in clubs there. While in Birmingham & Manchester we just went to the pubs in town afterwards.

Birmingham 2019 we went to the Grade Cricketer Show. They had Merv Hughes/ Peter Lalor & Gideon Haigh as guest speakers. Must admit Lalor & Haigh were pretty loose as well on stage then there normal TV/Media characters must have been the setting.

So look out for there schedule its a great night full of cricket comedy & Aussies.

Other then that Birmingham there isn't much - Edgbaston though has the best atmosphere.

Manchester reminded me of Melbourne a lot of pubs in the CBD area very gloomy/cold but a lot of new high rises as well more then London i say. But during test match days just go the pub go and see some Aussie people in either AFL/NRL or Australian jerseys and have a beer with them you will be sweet.

Even though no Leeds Test i recommend York as a place to visit probs the best little town in UK.

With 365 pubs in the town there is one for every day of the year. Just a great little spot to relax walk around see the heritage and give back to the local community.

I have heard good reports about Bristol & Cardiff yet to go there though.

Scotland/Edinburgh is a nice weekend away i did that after Manchester last year and did the Scottish Highlands tour on day 5 of the Manchester test. The sun was shining in the Highlands a few hours away while the ESPN Cricinfo app was telling me it was rain, rain, rain and still raining in Manchester as the Ashes slipped away from England.

I was coming back from Vienna to Manchester and a Aussie Cricket tour party was on the plane that group did Vienna between Leeds/Manchester tests last year so tour groups do take you to different parts of Europe if your interested in doing that within budget.

I know my Dad and brothers want to go over in 2027.

So we will see i might tag along with them all Parra fans haha.

England is a great place to watch cricket.

For all the shit we give each other i haven't had a problem across the 6 days of Test Cricket i have attended in those 3 tests. And the beer snake is in full swing.

When i wore my Parra Jersey though it actually generates great conversation with the locals and Aussies instead of just wearing Australia shirt.

While Zak Crawley was flogging us around on day 2 at Manchester i walked back up to my seat with a tray of beers with my back turned and actually got called King Gutho which was hilarious by a few poms.

Going off that list on the link i recommend Prague & Budapest definitely.

Vienna is okay i probably spent 1 day too many there only needed two not three i reckon.

Paris is a shithole i have it in the LA basket as biggest major city dumps i have been too. If you havent been then go and tick off it though.

The Eiffel Tower light show at night is awesome sitting on grass with all the gypsies wanting to rip you off selling you grog. Just barter them down as its actually illegal for them to be doing it.

Haven't been to Ireland yet i figure Randwick these days is basically Ireland anyway.

I tried to get tickets for the Lords Test via the ballot system in 2019, nominated for all days and all categories of seating but struck out.

Next time I plan to go when the kids are a bit older (my 3 year old is already inseparable from his Cricket bat) I'll probably go via something like AST or another group.

Wife and I didn't end flying over as we missed out on tickets.

Cheap as chips flights with Thai Airways at the time (We got Perth - London return for $1,400) but opted for a refund in the end.

Probably should have given the shitf**kery that was going to happen to travel in 2020!

Yep he came in on day 5.

Jofra hit him in the head 1st ball as well.

But we couldn't believe at the time Marnus was a complete joke at the time and here we were living the dream of Lords watching Marnus Labuschange bat.

Do you want the smudge photo at Birmingham when he scored his 2nd ton in that game.

I saw both but only have the photo of day 4 when he brought up his 2nd

His first we were 8/110 and got to 284 on day 1.
