Richards could miss entire season
Luckless Wests Tigers winger Pat Richards faces another stretch on the sidelines after undergoing surgey for a broken leg and dislocated ankle.
Richards, who turns 22 on Friday, suffered the injury during the National Rugby League club's 20-10 loss to South Sydney at Central Coast Stadium last night.
He underwent surgery in Gosford Hospital today and may not play again this season.
"It's fairly serious," Tigers football manager Steve Lavers said today.
"He was picking the ball up in his own in-goal and someone came down on his leg.
"It was just unfortunate."
Richards has been dogged by injuries in recent seasons.
He missed virtually the entire 2001 season with a knee injury and only managed 14 first grade games in his last two seasons at the club.
Richards had been one of the stars of Wests' pre-season and was expected to be a vital component of coach Tim Sheens' new-look backline.
Meanwhile, the Tigers expect to have half Scott Prince back for their final trial against Parramatta at Campbelltown Stadium next weekend.
Prince had surgery to remove scar tissue from his groin in the off-season and is yet to play for the club he joined from Brisbane.
Lavers said Prince had started running and was likely to feature against the Eels.
"We're hopeful that he will be right for that game," Lavers said.
And South Sydney's two-try hero Todd Polglase says attitude was the difference between the side which lost to St George Illawarra and the outfit that beat the Tigers last night.
"We weren't really switched on against St George Illawarra," said Polglase, who was recruited from the Bulldogs in the off-season.
"It's all about attitude.
"It was good to have a win. But we're not getting carried away. We thought we were going to win."
Souths fullback Brad Watts suffered a hamstring injury.
