Exiles game, full strength or experiment ?

If you were England coach which way would you go ?

I would pick the basis of a full strength England team i.e.: Sam Tomkins, James Roby, Ryan Hall, Ben Westwood etc but i would also use this game as an opportunity to select a few players to show what they can do with an eye on the 2013 World Cup. McNamara also needs to reward form players with selection.

IMO, it is an absolute waste of time to pick the old guard Peacock, Morley, Sinfield, JJB and Wilkin.

i would go something like this,

1. Sam Tomkins
2. Tom Briscoe
3. Leroy Cudjoe
4. Kallum Watkins
5. Ryan Hall
6. Jonny Lomax
7. Danny Brough
8. Lee Mossop
9. James Roby
10. Eorl Crabtree
11. Gareth Hock
12. Ben Westwood
13. Sean O'Loughlin

14. Ryan Bailey
15. Danny Tickle
16. Larne Patrick
17. Rob Burrow.

I wouldn't be upset to see other players chosen such as Elliot Whitehead, Danny Kirmond or Scott Taylor for the experience.

Not sure I like the selection of Ryan Bailey, however good his form is. Otherwise, a reasonable at worst team.

Assuming people are fit.

1. Sam Tomkins
2. Chris Riley
3. Ryan Atkins
4. Kallum Watkins
5. Ryan Hall
6. Ritchie Myler
7. Danny Brough
8. Lee Mossop
9. James Roby
10. Eorl Crabtree
11. Simon Grix
12. Ben Westwood
13. Sean O'Loughlin

14. Ryan Bailey
15. Gareth Hock
16. K Sinfield
17. Ben Harrison.

Warrington to the left of me and Leeds to the right. Stuck in the middle with Brough.

(Who started out with nothing, and now he is a self made man)

I'm surprised you only managed to squeeze in 6 Warrington players.

Well they are the best in there position. Maybe not Grix, but he is better than Wilkin.

But your right, with Macca in charge i could probably get Hodgson and Monas in there to...

1. Bret Hodgson
2. Chris Riley
3. Ryan Atkins
4. Chris Bridge
5. Sam Tomkins
6. Ritchie Myler
7. Danny Brough
8. Adrian Morley
9. Mick Monas
10. Eorl Crabtree
11. Simon Grix
12. Ben Westwood
13. James Roby

14. Sean O'Loughlin
15. Gaz Carvell
16. Micky Higham
17. Ben Harrison.

That looks better. :D

Once again your England coach has shown he has no idea, that back line he has chosen is a joke. I feel sorry for fans who want to see England do well at RL but i can see another embarrassing loss coming up.

Carl Ablett, no offence to him but an International centre ?
Kevin Sinfield is so bad this season it's not funny but he is playing #6 with Chase at halfback, with a WC next year i bet he docent even get sacked after the upcoming losing series v Exiles.

yawn. A pointless game for a pointless concept. Who on earth gives a rats ass who wins this? It's just another pointless game in what is already a crowded fixture list. When will anyone understand that to compete with Australia and NZ, England need to be in the same condition, not utterly flogged like usual. Cancel the international fixtures immediately and give representative players a full pre season for once

Good to see Macca experimenting with Sinfield as a 6 despite spending him spending the last few weeks doing nothing but watching players run past him. He can stand next to Ablett and have a laugh.

Other than, looks alright. Not sure why Peacock needs to be there, but he is captain i suppose.

So in order to compete with Australia and NZ you should cancel games against Australia and NZ?

There aren't any to cancel. I'm referring, of course, to the "international origin" and pretty much any game that isn't against NZ or Aus.

The season is too long to place any emphasis on international success. The classic GB/Eng falling off the pace in the last 20 mins of a game is testament to this. There's a big difference in the condition of the players and it's my opinion (worthless, of course) that extra games like this exacerbate the problem

I originally supported this idea but the more I see it the more I am thinking it's not the best idea. They definately need a respresentative series of some sort but using the national side is not the way to go. On top of that they need it to be locals v locals, otherwise it is just a morality killer when you see the home side losing to supposed "other nation rejects".

I'm not familiar with the layout of RL in the UK other than it's the predominantly the north of England. How they can make a proper best of the best series out of that I have no idea, but hopefully someone can soon because I don't see the current set up working in the long term.

They desperately need a game of close to Test Match quality but there is pretty much no better option than this.

"War of the Roses" failed and just reinforces the North of England game mentality.

Keep it going for at least 3 years I say.

How bout England play France or Wales?

Although after the game just gone people would say otherwise, those 2 are not upto the standard of league intensity which England are looking to get here. Yea they can play more games versus them and that improves those two countries but that doesn't help the English team vs the Kangaroos or Kiwis much.

The problem with playing France is that at the moment, the vast majority of players come from one club so it's really impractical to have a mid-season match against them. If SL clubs weren't so reluctant to sign French players and the talent was more spread then that would be far superior to the Exiles. Maybe Wales would be an option in the future when the likes of Lloyd, Dudson and Evans have developed a little more and hopefully started to fulfill their potential.
