Expectations 2015

I think Mulen's time under Bennett has been a tad overrated. He was awesome in all of 2013, but in 2012 he was consistently 'okay' and last year was a bit inconsistent due to a disrupted year for him and the whole team. Was very good at the back end of the year, though.

I still think his best season was in 2009.

Mullen is fantastic most years, until the time when his name and "origin" are mentioned in the same sentence. Then his form falls off a cliff for two months until origin is done and he's great again.

With Reynolds and Maloney ahead of him hopefully that won't happen this year.

The same as every year, I start off with a belief in the team and that they will find that Newy spirit of old, so again this year I believe we will finish 4th - 9th.

I seemed to be in the minority here, but I think we will improve on last year.
squad wise we arn't any worse off, our biggest loss was cuthbo who will be missed no doubt but the addition of Tariq will only strengthen our left edge and we may even see a little less traffic directed at Roberts as a result. We finished the year winning our last 5 games at home which we did without Boyd -no loss there right.
In hindsight our season was done the moment Mullen went down, once again like most teams injuries will be key and we are due for some luck in that department.
onto stoney, this time round he has a much better squad, his stated he will use some of bennetts methods whilst playing a more exciting brand of football -if he gets the balance right between Bennett ball and the traditional newcastle style we have the ability to knock any team off, Finding that consistancy is his big challenge IMO.
He also has A very keen interest in our juniors at all levels and I honestly think this may be the yr we can unearth a young talent that makes a first grade spot his own.

Honestly I don't think we can win it, But to run deep like we did in 2013 is well within our reach Imo,

The things I would love to see this year is
- make hunter stadium a fortress once more (do this and your well on your way to the 8)
- play with the type of flair we showed at the back end of last yr.
- see a young bloke really cement his spot in first grade ie Mataora, Levi or even a bloke I think is a real chance Jake Finn.
- Roberts to have that breakout year.

Sorry for the rant lol but there is enough there for mine to be thinking positive about this season

Really though? His form dips during Origin for sure, not going to argue that but leading up to Game One and through the selection debate he's been on top of his game for at least the last two seasons. Hell last year he schooled Reynolds against the Dogs in a game we should have probably won and absolutely out classed him in the City vs Country game. The only thing that has stopped him is Daley wanting to stick with club pairings.

If Mataora steps up and becomes a real monster for us we will be top 8 material and will be a real threat. Snowie needs a twin tower to take the heat off of him. Willie did that in short bursts only. Korbin has got to start making his mark. He really is entering the make or break phase of his front row career. When you look at the progress of May other front rowers he has been quite disappointing all things considered. I think he is a great player in the making. I feel Bennett used him poorly.

Not saying he won't but I don't have that high an expectation of him in his first season in the top grade...he's going to be a work in progress this year for mine and my expectation is that he learn and improve as the year goes on and if he holds his own, I'll be happy - anything more will be a bonus

Korbin definitely needs to be more agressive and hopefully more physically dominant for more minutes this year. I'm not Snowden's biggest fan but it sure would help him and the whole team if our props could lift a few notches and rip in a lot more.

I don't care if we finish first or fifteenth, just as long as we finish higher than the Broncos.

Yeah, I can't believe how much hatred I have for Bennett and Boyd now.

I don't usually like to get bitter with these sort of things but the way Bennett virtually threw the playing group under the bus for not 'performing to his standards" (or something to that effect) and then not to even really farewell the club and fans when he left ... The guy is a wanker.

The guy has a massive chip on his shoulder, too. Always demanding changes to the game like he's some sort of god and the millions of excuses in our press conferences on why our team aren't performing but never taking responsibility himself.

Couldn't help but notice that. "I didn't get the number on the back, but GI is a superstar!"

Didn't get much credit for the Grevsmuhl assist either.

Played really well, very proud of his efforts. Got my fingers crossed he'll have an excellent 2015.

Yeah, T looked really sharp. Equally at half and hooker which is impressive. It's a shame he's so up and down because he's a deadset footballer and there aren't that many left in the game nowadays.

I thought all our blokes looked pretty good actually. Scott and Smith were actually trying to pop some passes to get something going for the All Stars although on a whole the whole side was very ineffective.

I thought that. If it was Thurston who kicked that one Gould would of almost got his old fella out started going for it.

Bennetts use of language throughout his tenure was often "they" and rarely "we". It's negative language. I'm of the belief the guy is full of himself and a hoax of epic proportions. I'll give him one thing though, his propulsion of the Super Coach myth and his promotion of brand Bennett is gold.
