Experimental kicking rule to be trialled at All Stars

Love this about the microphones! Allways wanted to hear stuff that's going on in the team!

I don't think this rule would catch on in regular games.. Too much risk..

I remember the good old days when Alexander, Mortimer, Gale amongst others would be doing this all the time. Be good to get some of the old skills back and make league more then just a field posisiotn game again. Add something different to it.

Players seem to be genuinely excited by the idea, so I don't see what you guys are whinging about. It's an exhibition game. The point is for the players to have a bit of fun, and fans to enjoy something different rather than focusing on who wins or loses. Some of the most exciting players of our game just had a totally new aspect provided to them, which showcases their skills more. Doesn't always have to be about you plonkers want

Or if no one is within 20m of him he kicks 5m forward and regathers and gets 6 to go

Either compete in the scrums or get rid of them all together.

I disagree. The scrum, done properly in a game of Rugby League is a great attacking option. It thins the defensive line leaving the backs on the pitch and the forwards bunched in one area.

You don't need to give the defensive team a greater opportunity to win the ball, you need to give the team that didn't offend the chance to put an attacking play on.

Having 1 and a half tonnes of beef trying to snap each others spines isn't really neccessary.

Rugby Union shows how f**king pointless the contested scrum actually is. Touch engage, push, no get up lets go again... Touch engage, push, no get up lets go again... Touch engage, push, no get up lets go again... Touch engage, push, no get up lets go again... Touch engage, push, no get up lets go again... Touch engage, push, no get up lets go again... Touch engage, push, no get up lets go again... Touch engage, push, no get up lets go again... Touch engage, push, no get up lets go again... Touch engage, push, no get up lets go again............... 15 minutes later f**k this, penatly to this team for being marginally less annoying than that team in my opinion.... What a load of bollocks it is.

I hope our game never goes back that pile of pish and more coaches do what Tim Sheens does and takes advantage of using the space created to set up inventive attacking football.

One rule change I would love to see is the continuation of the tackle count if a kick is charged down and the team that failed to actually beat the first defender gets the ball back.

If you can't beat the first defender with your kick, you don't deserve six more tackles if the bounce goes your way and you regather.

Rewarding failure with six more tackles doesn't make sense. Reward the man that actually put the pressure on and stopped the kick.

So noone used it.

I thought during the game though, They could on the 5th tackle send somebody all the way back as far as their own goal line so that they are there by themselves. Get someone to kick the ball down to him, then that player could just grubber ahead and there would be nobody there to stop the regather.

Hs to go past the previous play the ball. So that wouldn't work.

Glad no one used it anyhow.

Pretty disappointing that they didn't use it.

How do we know if the rule would work or not now?

Pretty good game overall though.

...

Rule Change: If a player in possession of the ball in his team’s half of the field kicks the ball and it is re-gathered by him or any member of his team, the referee shall signal 6 more tackles for the team in possession provided that -:

- The ball has traveled at least 5 metres in a forward direction (towards the opponent’s goal line).

- The kick has reached the point at which the previous play the ball (ruck) took place.

- The ball is regained by the attacking team prior to the half way mark. If the ball is kicked in the defensive half of the field but is regained in the attacking half, the referee shall not restart the tackle count.

I thought the NRL All stars were going to use it.

Dugan was talking about a play 3, then the indigenous side went for a short kick off and ruin whatever play 3 was.
