eyes firmly on next year?

Are most of the desicions smith makes made with his eyes firmly fixed on next season?

Guys like Carmont, Tanner, Davico, Franze etc could all add some stability to our firstgrade lineup - but these guys are obviously not in the plans for next season - and guys like Matt Gidley, Anthony Quinn, Luke Quigley and even Brendan Worth would have been usefull this year - but were not in Smith's plans for 2008.

I think the first thing Smith thinks about when naming the side each week is 'which players are we grooming for next year'. Then he fills up the side with players who are still a chance of signing if they play well.

Why he won't pick Sargent? - that is a worry.

Hey guys who have been watching PL is Sargent carrcked it? Is he playing really badly, or is still something wrong with his performances? Sargent used to be a quality prop, surely being sacked cant make him a horrible player all of a sudden...

Hey when do you guys think we will start knowing for sure which players weve signed and stuff. When does it get offical?

He is a fairly old, small prop.
I can see Smith not rating him as a long term prospect.
We have him cheap because of his 'problems' - i can see him being let out of his contract if he can do better elsewhere - and he would get a lot better contract in England, or even at another NRL club.
All that is pure speculation of course. I'm probably a million miles off base.

Maybe he's playing so well Smith fears he may be chosen for Origin, and risk him being injured. Or just making him reach his potential?

Smith has plans for him, I'm very sure.

compare him to Perry - he is two years older - two inches shorter and 15 kg lighter.

yeah, but he's at least (aside from one indiscretion) a good deal smarter, and from what i've seen of him in prems, a good deal more consistent...he definately at least deserves a run

Hmm... wouldnt be surprised if Sargent does get a run this week. I doubt there will be many changes because this will distrup the team. Look at the dragons way too many changes for anything good to come of it.

Sargent would do good in FG I say, least give him a crack Smith.
