F.O Cleary

Times up Ivan..

Ivan Cleary is aware the calls have already started for him to be dumped as Warriors coach but says such criticism is simply "part of the job".
Frustrated with the fact the Warriors have won only two matches from their first six, fans and pundits are beginning to question whether Cleary is still the right man for the job he started in 2006.
The longest-serving coach in the club's history acknowledged yesterday he was aware of the criticism but said he wasn't letting it get to him.
But with former Kiwis boss Brian McClennan now back in New Zealand and working for the Auckland Rugby League, you can be sure Cleary's feeling the heat.
"At the end of the day it's just other peoples' opinions," Cleary told Sunday News.
"If there's an opinion one day, there will be another one tomorrow.
"Look, it's around. It is the nature of the game and it's nothing I haven't had before so it doesn't really affect the way I do my job.
"But it's a result business."

He is probably a nice guy, but everything he says is so wishy-washy. No wonder the team play like they do. You'd be struggling to stay awake through a pre-game talk.
BOB! (Bring on Bluey.)

He is a genuinely nice guy. I've chatted to him a few times on the sideline at Auckland league games and he is a decent chap.

Just a pity his coaching doesn't match up.

Sign me up. I kinda hope we keep losing, just to speed the process along. Doesn't really seem like I need to hope for such things, though.

That's probably why I have no enthusiasm about this season. I can't bring myself to want them to lose, but I know winning will mean Ivan stays and probably gets a 10 year extension.

If you can believe John Hart in an article somewhere this morning, he's in for a lifetime..

I think Hart is still employed by the Rugby Union.
He talks of "growing the franchise" not winning a title or playing attractive football.
Management speak. No passion.

BOB.

He's a champion bloke. I have a relative that works with him on a daily basis and he can't sing his praises enough.
Having said that i am well and truely in Ozbash's camp and have been for a good 18 months.
F.O Cleary is not the wording i would use either, the guy has given a lot to the club and us fans both on and off the paddock, but it is time for him to move on.

It's not the wording I'd use either. I believe the next coach will benefit greatly from what Clearly has done, but imo we've reached the limits of how far Clearly can take this team and both coach and club need to move on to improve.

I will never ever hope for the Warriors to lose in order to get rid of a coach, but I definitely agree it is time for Cleary to go and I have been one of his supporters until recently. On another matter I wasn't sure whether Hart was still involved with the club until I read that Herald article as I haven't heard anything from him regarding the Warriors for around about a year (or it seemed that long).

Hmmm. I still remain torn, although I totally understand why the calls and am frustrated and bored to the point of signing up. I've liked the guy and much of what he's done so wouldn't use the wording either...but remain dubious as to whether he can motivate the team.
If the players like him the calls for his head should motivate them if nothing else does.
2011 IMO is make or break. Yeahs, been said for a while now, and we've had some serious ups and downs-And the downs have been lack lustre and boring in the extreme. But he's had a shocking run with injuries. Doesn't seem much point ditching him now, let the year run it's course and see what he's made of to get through the frustrating slump.
That said, I believe he has gone as far as he can and it's time to part ways when the contracts up.

I think that maybe, there is a huge assumption that Brian actually wants to coach the Warriors. I'm not 100% sure that this is the NRL club he wants. Most have forgotten, or don't know, that he has been involved with the Wocks in the past, and he wasn't exactly complimentary when he pulled the pin the first time. There was, of course, a completely different management group there at the time.

There is also a huge assumption that Bluey would be able to win us a premiership. Have said this elsewhere, it's a big ask to win this comp anyway, but doing it without a 6 or 7 that has a consistent kicking game/vision/organizational skills makes it that much tougher. If I look at the main reason for the Warriors inability to win a premiership since Cleary took over, then Cleary<quality of available halves locally & available halves on market open to coming to live in NZ.

Fair point, but the one point I'd note there is he had halves that got them to one game away from a GF-Only to be thrashed by the team who was not going to lose to anyone (remember the GF score the following week?), and their answer was to release both of them. After mucking Witt around something chronic.
Like or hate Witt/Fein combo, they have been the most successful in the Cleary years-and their response was frankly to treat them like shit.
Don't think Ives ever got over having to drop his Rovelli...

And it doesn't really surprise me that since then Fien has won both a premiership and a world cup.

Don't even get me started on Ivans retention and recruitment ability. He should wear a red curly wig, red nose and white face paint and have the Benny Hill music in the background any time he talks contracts with players.
