According to all reports 2010 will be the last time we see Formula 1 in Australia, now this looks certian to be the case unless there are drastic measures taken.

Perhaps V8 supercars will take over at Albert Park each March wouldn't that be an event.

Matt

the Champ Cars seem to flourish on the coast they seem to put a good spectile on and IMO its the best Street circuit that can support the open wheelers

anther thing that could make it good is if it had the V8s as a official round of the v8 supercars?

Sufferer's Paradise would be too dangerous for contemporary F1

Tight street circuits are frowned upon these days because of the lack of run-off. The only thing that has saved Monaco thus far is its history

Cost being the problem, the only option seems to be moving the race to an established permament facility like Phillip Island, although chances are that a few modifications would be necessary, and its unlikey that the Victorian govt would front up with the cash...

I wouldnt mind it back here mate the Clipsal 500 goes good here into its 10th yr also so it shows we can put on a good spectacle.

but im a believer it wont come back mate so you reckon Bathurst is feasible for it?? or will the mountain be too hard on the cars???? dipper etc

Since we have ruled out surfers what about
Eastern Creek
Philip Island
Queensland Raceway
Oran Park
Sandown

The elevation changes at Bathurst would make it far too dangerous for F1 cars, especially through the dipper as you say

Queensland Raceway is too boring, and Oran Park would need a massive facelift

The ony real options apart from a return to Adelaide (my preference) are The Creek and The Island

I still dont see why we cant have it in surfers as they champ cars use it with hardly any probs with run off etc

Not enough coin in it, especially with the ChampCar race there as well

Sandown's another option, but it would probably need a pit upgrade

The Olympic precinct in Sydney was also mentioned as a venue for V8/F1, with the wide spaces there it could be a real option for a street circuit.

But, there's not enough money in an Australian race now, Bernie is chasing the big coin in the Middle East and Asia, and we will eventually lose our round, no matter where we staged it.

The moment we lose this race it be a sad day in Australian Motor sport - IMO i reckon the race lost money the moment it left Adelaide but i guess i am being biased

other then Albert Park n Adelaide Surfers was the other option to try and keep our race but other than that we don't really have a track at a pinnacle as most others and money is everything now

F1 is around 10 times more expensive to run now than it was during the last Adelaide race, it has to be a profit driven sport. The race will leave Australia never to return I fear.

I agree, Bernie is going to take the races to the highest bidder, there will be more in the Middle East and Asia. All the tracks will be designed by his one favourite track designer, so there will eventually be no variety at all.

Excessive noise rules out an F1 event on the Gold Coast. I don't know if anyone here has heard an F1 car doing 17-18000rpm at close proximity, but it is earsplitting enough on an open field circuit let alone bouncing and echoing off high rise buildings. The reason that Champ Cars don't have this issue is that they run a turbocharged V8 and the turbo muffles a lot of exhaust noise.

Regardless, Australia quite frankly just doesn't have a circuit suitable for the F1 circus anymore. The surface, safety features and ammenities are all lacking.
