Given loading and carryovers I guess it's not surprising. I'd be considering fighting the grading on the second tackle.

Matai is probably unlucky to be facing any suspension for his tackle and Stewart getting a grade 1 is probably fair. No doubt Stewart will just cop the loading and play this week. especially if Matai is going to be out.

Matai's problem is his record I would think. Question - if you plead guilty but challenge the grading and get knocked back do you still get the discount for an early plea?

You couldn't be more wrong.

There is a trend emerging this season. Over the last few years, spear tackles have been few and far between. This year, there have been multiples in every game Souths have played and they have ALL involved Greg Inglis.

If you take him high he pushes you off, if you take him low, he gets himself into an awkward position to draw a penalty.

If it was one-off, I would blame the tackler but it has happened 1/2 a dozen times at least and always involves Inglis.

Fa'oso and Inu deserve time for lifting with hands between the legs but that second tackle from Fa'oso he wasn't even trying to lift and Inglis landed on his head.

He knows what he is doing and it is working very well.

Expect to see many more spear tackles on Inglis and the Souths camp carrying on about he is being targeted because of how good he is

What a load of bollocks.

So because you can't tackle him onto his back easily, it is ok to do whatever it takes?

Inu put his hand between his legs and tried to lift him, couldn't do it, then went again and did the job.

What part of not putting your arms between the legs and lifting don't you understand?

Inu had his arm between the legs. Both of Richies though we're both arms wrapped around both legs. The league world is watching now. Inglis gets speared again and questions are going to be asked. But we're talking about Inglis here, he's never cheated in his life has he?

6 weeks for a high shot that bounced up off the ball? Give yourself an uppercut.

Or three.

If you watch the replay with both eyes open, matai is extremely lucky he skimmed the ball at all before he collected burgess in the head. It was text book swinging arm.

Typical manly supporter denial.

Also if you watch the replay carefully, you can see catai feigning a neck injury as he hides from the punch up.

What a grub.

Bullshit.

If the ball wasn't there, he would have been hit around the top of the chest.

Wrong.

He had his hand in between the legs for the first one.

 You're deluded.. There were also two dangerous position tackles tonight that could easily have turned into spears, I suppose they were planned by the ball carrier too seeing as that stuff is few and far between these days? You dont frequent those conspiracy theory websites do you? Did the moon landings actually occur? Please do tell..

Maybe footballers should learn to just tackle around the legs instead of lifting them. After all, a player wouldnt get anywhere near vertical if his leg wasn't already above hip height. The onus is on the tackler to not lift. Simple.

Bollocks. Opposition coaches are instructing players to get Inglis off his feet, to slow down the play the ball. Inglis is fighting in the tackle trying to break out of it, and winning the battle due to his size and strength. In order to gain some ascendancy, the defenders are looking to lift Inglis off his feet to get him on the ground. 9 times out of 10 they are successful, however the times they are not, are those that we are talking about.

I do not believe for one second that Inu or Fa'aoso were looking to intentionally spear tackle Inglis. But their actions were, quite obviously reckless.

I thought Fa'aoso should have been sent off last Friday. Clearly, two spear tackles in the same game, would suggest that, until he works on his technique, he is potentially a danger to opposition players. That's how it ought have been viewed IMO.

Having said that, I believe that 6 weeks is an appropriate penalty.
