Went to Lorne last year and it was pretty good.
I am planning on going again this year - though it could be to Tassie. It is a great way to spend New Year - hopefully the line up will be good.

THE FALLS FESTIVAL FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT

It’s the grand first announcement for The Falls Festival and there’s a lot to say! First and foremost, let’s tell you who is coming.

True maestros of style, The Dandy Warhols, with their trademark heady mix of seamless rock hooks and sonic experimentalism will be expanding The Falls Festival soundscape into deep psychedelia. Chances are you’ve stumbled across the Dandy’s kaleidoscopic musical palette before. Formed in Portland, Oregon in 1994, they burst into the limelight with international hits like "Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth" and "Bohemian Like You." They were the subject of the film Dig!, winner of the Grand Jury Prize Documentary at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival. And with a new album next month, the Dandy’s super seductive sounds will be all over your airwaves. Take a ride on this exhilarating '60s-into-'90s excursion and be left feeling "Every Day Should Be A Holiday".

If there is one collective on earth that is guaranteed to get the place jumping, sparing no one from their infectious concoction of Latin salsa, urban hip-hop and jazz-funk, it could only be our most beloved Afro-Latin 10 piece from LA – Ozomatli. It is a year of celebration with OZO reaching their 10th year anniversary as well as taking out the 2005 GRAMMY WINNER - Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album. So they’ll be in fine form celebrating the passing of 2005 with their distinctive and renowned live performance at The Falls Festival. The way OZO see it, "Music is the key to every culture, the beginning of an understanding" – prepare to be enlightened, OZO style!

Universally likeable for their reflective and perfectly skewed pop innovation, The Shins are one of the most impressive indie pop / rock surprises of recent years. Forged in melody and drenched in atmosphere, The Shins sound, complete with James Mercer’s formidable vocal range is unique, inventive and above all else memorable. The rest of this year sees The Shins finishing off their eagerly awaited third album and touring with The White Stripes. But the most important dates inked into the calendar of this impressive quartet from New Mexico are The Falls Festival where they will be the "Garden State" band plus a whole lot more.

Don your finest, beat your drum and howl at the moon because The Falls Festival has answered your baying calls and deliver to you those curly motherbrothers - Wolfmother. Their sound strips back heavy 70s rock riffs and grinds Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Led Zepplin to emerge in the modern era as epic psychedelic rock songs threatening to create a whole new type of primal heavy weirdness. Lay back and embrace the true rebirth of the power trio with Wolfmother at The Falls Festival. Old school rock never sounded so damn danceable.

There’s little point telling you how much Australian’s love Pete Murray – with massive sold out tours around the nation and a debut album that went six-times platinum, chances are you already know! It’s been a few years since The Falls Festival has played host to Pete’s unmistakable voice and soul-baring ballads so it’s a welcome return. With a new album out in September, there’ll be a lot to look forward to with Pete at The Falls Festival.

With more frequent flyer miles than your average pilot and a globetrotting schedule so busy you get dizzy just looking at it, The Falls Festival is pleased to be able to lure The Beautiful Girls back to our shores this summer. Their neat combination of roots, hip-hop, reggae, soul and blues is a rhythmic collision of styles that somehow creates an organic simplistic sound that is infectious and charming.

There’s definitely an air of excitement surrounding Victorian three-piece The Vasco Era who have attracted a truckload of attention in the last 12 months. They’ve got an impressive EP, complete with big hit single "Kingswood" and a dynamic live show to back it up. The Vasco Era combines raw rock energy with an emphatic blues quality, strong rhythms and mind blowing vocals that range from screaming intensity to delicate whispers to change the pace whilst keeping the crowd pumped from go to whoa. No stranger to the festival circuit and having toured with such greats as The Black Keys, the boys will feel right at home at The Falls Festival.

Sydney’s dynamic five-piece Faker offer a dapper slice of post-mod power pop to The Falls Festival line-up. With an explosive and self-assured frontman and vocals reminiscent of The Cure, it’s an emotional ride rich with style and swagger. Unashamedly influenced by their post-punk 80s mentors, Faker’s sound is still distinctively new and has had radio and fans alike hooked with tracks like "This is the way we go!"

Formed in 1999 out of a mutual obsession for freestyle rhymes, TZU are one of Australia’s finest freestyling, hip hopping, rhyming talents. They mix up the live format with tight, well-rehearsed flows and freestyle improvisations producing a straight up good time that pulses through your body with the beat. Their lyrical skill, creative take and perceptive humour render you defenseless and laughing at your very own story.

Armed initially with just a hand scribbled bio and a handful of demos, The Grates have carved a spectacular path from John’s garden shed to relentless radio play and the world stage in a very short space of time. Their charismatic yet quirky style saw them charm audiences at the worlds’ largest music festival conference (SXSW, Austin, Texas) and perform their catchy lo-fi rock pop everywhere from LA’s Viper room to The Barfly in London. This Brisbane trio rocks the house with the unremitting energy of a high school basement party and makes you dance like it’s your birthday.

You know by now that The Falls Festival features around 50 acts of 1st class pedigree from home and abroad so this is just a taste of things to come. With The Falls Festival selling out in record time last year and other events following suit all year, we recommend you don’t sit about waiting for the next announcement or you’ll find the only one who isn’t going is YOU!! Tickets go on sale Monday August 15

Will there be any sideshows? I wont be going to the festival and even though The Shins have already been here once this year, I would love to see them. Would also like to see the Dandys.

Ozomatli are playing and in the past they've played Lorne on NYE then come to Melbourne and throw down at the Corner Hotel in Richmond on New Years day! It's dope as! I went in 2003 and 2004 and the place sells out and its like a block party....

Not sure about anyone else. Think you'll find with Falls a lot of the acts are playing EXCLUSIVELY....last year the black keys headlined bt didnt play anywhere else. I know Veruca Salt and Dakota star played together but I ain't sure about anyone else...
