I can play Splinter Cell 2 on my PC, on low settings it runs fine, so I should be able to play Far Cry?

I tried the demo on 2 machines and was disappointed.
eg Centrino 1.7 512mb 64mb/ ATI 9600 was quite choppy.
AMD 2600 1GB/128mb Geforce FX5200, would not even display the graphics properly.

I heard that the final game is better with the code, but yet don't want to fork out the $$$ as a result. I'll stick to BF Vietnam.

geforce fx5200 is a waste of time. the 9600 should be ok but if thats a laptop it won't be as good as running it on a pc with a proper 9600 card in.

Should be OK on medium, I have seen it run on P4 1.8/1gigRam/Ti4200 and was surprised to see how well it ran. If you don't already use it try GameXP to streamline your machine.

What does gamexp do? And where can I get it?

Game XP switches off lots of unnecessary background services like system restore.

Use at your own risk, its a free program I have used for a long time, but I won't be responsible if it screws your machine.

If you're a serious gamer it is definitely worth a look.

Get it at http://www.theorica.net/gamexp.htm

Well today I got Far Cry and it didnt play well. All the scenary in the game were all white, so I downloaded the latest drivers for my card, which were 66.93
and I reloaded the game and the graphics worked fine, Ive been playing it on medium settings and it looks and plays great. Wicked graphics, im surprised at how well the old 5200 plays it, shows how much difference drivers can make.

THEY WERE THERE, THEY TAKE THE BLAME!!!!

Lol, if you can't handle updating your drivers regularly you might as well give up gaming now because regular driver updaes are critical on a gaming PC.
Re Far Cry, it's somewhere between Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 in system requirements. Plaved pretty good on my system (Radeon 9700 Pro, Athlon XP2700+, 1GB RAM) but not as good as HL2.

I have a radeon 9700 pro too, 1gb ram and a 2600+ (oc'd to 3200)

I don't use the official ATI drivers, i use the omega drivers which are basically a mod of the ATI drivers... good for CSS fps :D

Definitely. I was amazed at how fast Half-Life 2 runs, it's a lot smoother than Far Cry at the same settings, although it doesn't have to deal with the massive drawing distances that Far Cry does (in some Far Cry levels the game is rendering objects up to 2km in the distance). [/code]
