Wouldn't be surprised if this lightly raced Fastnet Rock (Military Academy) gelding ends up in Australia one day.

Aussie owners typically seek to buy horses like this who are hovering around the listed grade level; that usually means they are good enough for Group 1 level here.

A lot of the time these European horses come over as so-called hopeless donkeys before winning our Group 1 races, but their form is never as bad as people say.

Few examples

Light Infantry Man placed 5 times at Group 1 level in Europe
Hartnell Group 1 placed in France
Mourayan Group 1 placed in Ireland
Selino Group 2 placed in England
Harlem Group 2 placed in France
Manighar Group 1 placed in France
Cascadian Group 1 placed in France
Sir Dragonet Group 1 placed in Ireland
Almandin Group 2 winner in Germany
Dubai Honour Group 1 placed in England before coming to Australia(Group 1 winner in France since)
Addeybb Group 1 placed in England before coming to Australia(Group 1 winner in England since)
Avilius placed 3 times at Group 2 level in France
Gailo Chop Group 1 placed in France
Our Ivanhowe Group 1 winner in Germany
The United States Group 3 winner in Ireland
Reliable Man Group 1 winner in France
Via Sistina Group 1 winner in Ireland
Gold Trip Group 1 placed in France and 4th in the Arc

Yeh 100% plenty of them have pretty decent form.

It’s the optics that so many that have come over as low grade winners but turn into WFA horses, Zaaki probably the big one amongst others.

Ironically plenty of the better performed horses that have come out here have struggled…off the top of my head, Sea Moon, Michaelangelo, Serpentine, Alcohol Free etc

Maybe it's just me but it seems the news around the champs death has been relatively quiet?

Just comparatively to when Redoutes and Snitzel died I remember seeing the news everywhere in mainstream media.

Yep I thought the same. And the “accident” that caused his death was unspecified. What happened to the champ? We all know anything and everything can possibly happen to these horses but I thought they could’ve elaborated a bit there.
