The smurfs were communists. There was no class system. They all dressed the same and had the same houses and all had "equal" status and importance within their community except of course the leader (dictator) who just happened to be the only dressed differently, draped in communist red and got everything his way and was the wisest.

Oh, and Gargamel (sp?) represented capitalism, he placed money and status above everything else (trying to capture the smurfs to turn them into gold) – his main role was to attempt and destroy the smurf's communist utopia.

I beg to differ, smurfette probably had a lot of power over all those lonely male smurfs.
If she was smart, she could have abused her position as the only female and obtained anything she wanted

However she didn't. Despite being created by Gargamel she pretty much stuck to Communist Doctrine of Papa Smurf and had equal status, just like the rest. Except once a year at the annual gang bang of course, but that's understandable.
