Female Refs

Was watching Belinda Sharp tonight and got to wondering how many sports have females as the main official in men's competitions at the highest level.

Genuine question, there may be some but I couldn't think of any.

Wasn't impressed. She gifted the knights field position 3 times in the first half when they were going nowhere inside their 30. That allowed them to kick their way to a few trys they didn't deserve.

These cheap penalties don't mean that much on dry days but on torrential days like tonight they're gold. Saints didn't receive one penalty when they were slugging the ball out from their 20 even though there wasn't any difference in the rucks for either team.

Don't even care mate. Opinions are like arseholes, everyone's got one. And I would say she's no better or worse than most of the men.

Answer the question.

Did anyone else notice she stopped calling 6 again penalties after the Knight took a 14-point lead in the first half?

Bizarre how there were more ruck infringement in the second half by both teams, but Belinda refused to penalize both teams. She is at NRL level inconsistent and incompetent.

We didn't even kick for touch on those penalties, such was the wind. Just tapped and ran. The Dragons also refused to learn and kept trying to slow down the ptb, so not really her fault.

The 6 agains were inconsistent but no worse than they are at any other time of with any other ref, they're always a lottery.

I would say the exact opposite. The ruck laws are applied with remarkable consistency at all levels of the game in the 5 main RL nations. Genuine deficiencies are only conspicuous in developing areas.

I suspect those who rail against inconsistency have never read, much less understood, the "Tackle and PTB" section of the rulebook. Same applies to most media pundits. Very frustrating for refs when their ruck infringement calls are so frequently misinterpreted by commentators. Blind leading the blind.

The NBA has 9 female referees, with the first coming into the league 10 years ago.

In football (soccer depending on where you come from) there are dozens of female referees currently officiating in top flight leagues across the world.

She was just as inconsistent and incompetent as the male refs.

The top flight league is the premier league. Everything below that is reserve grade and lower.
