Blake Ferguson’s time in the NRL is coming to an end with the Eels star reportedly on the verge of inking a deal with a Japanese rugby team.

Ferguson is off-contract at the end of the season and is unlikely to land a new deal with the Eels.

The 31-year-old was informed late last year that he wouldn’t be re-signed beyond 2021. He then had a mixed season where he went from being in the conversation for a New South Wales jersey tio being dropped to reserve grade.

The former Kangaroos star has been coy on his future, however News Corp is reporting he is close to signing a “rich” deal with the NEC Green Rockets.

Ex-Wallabies coach Michael Cheika is the director of rugby with NEC and is said to be the driving force in the chase for Ferguson.

I hope this is true, but that the contract offer is conditional on Fergo having decent matches through the finals. If he's already signed, then we're screwed...

Japanese One League rugby season is only a few months and you can earn a shit tonne of cash and just come home. Their sides are owned by Sanyo, Yamaha, Suntory, Toyota etc and they are relaunching with generic names in 2022.
