The Fiji National Rugby League yesterday renewed a one-year deal with the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation.
FBC director sales, Morika Young said the contract was just to renew the partnership they had in the past year but with additional coverage.
“It is for another year, but with FBC having a TV station from next year we will look at having that added onto the contract.
“Through this contract FBC will be giving more commitment and additional coverage beginning with their sevens tournament which begins tomorrow (today).”
Young said they would be associated with the event and they look forward to increasing their support to the Vodafone Fiji Bati and working with the parent body.
FNRL general manager Steve McLellan said they were delighted to renew the deal. He added FNRL views all their partnership sponsors as something they need to build. “We as a sport are going in the right direction and we are glad to be associated with FBC.”

Good news. Im not too sure how much NRL coverage they get.

Anyone in the Pacific, South East Asia and India can view NRL/SOO games via Australia Network's satellite service. Most games are live FTA but at times they alternate with time slots with VFL.

Also seen more RU clubs are switching to RL.

Seems all that is happening is some coaching clinics & the clubs are ready to defect. Wouldn't it be great to have Fiji as a major RL nation.

See Petro is going to help with developing the game more in the Pacific when he retires. What a great embassador for the game who has the potential to do so much for RL in this region of the world.

I think Fiji could do well, all the big guys play union. All have size, much bigger than the bati forwards, they just lack the technique other nations do. Since league isnt that technical, I think theres definately some potential there.

Yes, and unlike other Pacific nations, Fiji has a significant population (+800 000) so there's a greater platform to support higher levels of rugby league.
