The Vodafone Fiji Bati team management have named 21 of their 24-member squad to the Rugby League World Cup today with Petero Civoniceva and Wes Naiqama confirmed as captain and vice captain respectively. Naiqama is one of seven players from the 2008 RL WCup squad alongside Alipate Tani, Kaliova Tani, Jason Bukuya, Ashton Sims, Wes Naiqama, Aaron Groom and Darryl Millard who have been recalled for this year's World Cup. Notable names missing from the squad include Jone Wesele, Fiji Residents captain Sevanaia Koroi, Osea Sadrau, Akuila Uate, John Sutton and Jarryd Hayne who were all part of the 2008 edition. Former Fiji 7s winger Semi Radradra, Marika Koroibete and Sisa Waqa are among notable players named in the squad. Fiji Bati head coach Rick Stone said they will reveal the names of three additional players later. He acknowledged the 34 players who had a run today in the Battle of the Bati for a good show. Stone said he returns to Australia soon to meet up with players still participating in the NRL. "We will return after the NRL finals on October 7 and we will have another run in the West." The selection of the squad follows the Battle of the Bati match between the Overseas Fijians and the Fiji Residents at the ANZ Stadium tonight. The match was won by the Residents 18-14. Meanwhile the Rugby League World Cup 2013 is scheduled for 26 October to 30 November with fourteen teams contesting the tournament. uate & sutton are still playing finals footy....i expect them to be named afterwards

There are a couple of players still playing finals in the squad. Sutton is rumoured to be joining the squad but uate isn't eligible and won't be there.

Two actual Fijian rugby league juniors in the nrl with korobete and waqa and one union convert in radradra. Great achievement which can probably be put down to their last World Cup performance. This team looks strong as well, hopefully it inspires more kids to take up rugby league in Fiji. Surely the nrl can't ignore these countries any longer.

Jacob Loko has been injured for quite a while. However I thought he'd still be in the squad. Must not be worth the risk.

Could be spots left ope for Hayne and Sutton if not selected for Australia, the third either a Resident Bati or someone like Nabuli, surely 26 tries in NSW Cup he would be solid enough to make it (albeit probably only a winger) - Gould has said he will be in the NRL next season.

Fiji rugby league just tweeted that the official crowd for the battle of the bati game was over 12000. Surely that's a record crowd for rugby league in Fiji.

Such a shame that they never get home internationals.

That's a bold statement hutch.

Not really, he isn't eligible. He should never have been allowed to switch to Australia but did and has therefore switched during this World Cup cycle. He therefore can't switch back to Fiji until after the rlwc.

Loko will wait till end of month to test his leg.
John Sutton & Akuila are definite . Jarrod Haynes
is 50/50 depending on Aus squad ....
Loko or Taqele to take remaining spot depending
on their fitness . They both bring versatility
to our team .
It's healthy to know that we have a pool of players
to choose from with NRL experience .
