Fijian Roosters

I see the Roosters have signed a Fijian guy, Napolini Vonowale for 2 years. Does anyone know much about this guy?

Also, have any Roosters supporters on here seen Stanley Waqa play? He was in the Roosters SG Ball side last year and also represented NSW U17. I think he is a front rower, but would be good to get some feedback on how he goes from people that have actually seen him play.

Any info on these 2 guys would be great and on any other Fijian players that may be at the Roosters in the lower grades.

Napolean Vonawale played rugby at my school last year, Auckland Grammar School, in NEw Zealand. He plays either winger or centre, and is one of the most dangerous youngsters going around, with blinding pace and devestating power, I'd put him in the same league as a young Wendell Sailor and Lote Tuqiri. Here's a few things I've grabbed from the school website:

Some snippets from match reports:

AGS 31 v Tauranga Boys' College 15 - 30 April 2005
As always, Tauranga provided a tenacious opposition intent on using possession well and running at every opportunity - a different style to the forward dominated game favoured by most of the teams in the Auckland area. However, the Grammar team was dominant throughout the match and led 17 - 5 at half time thanks to tries to wings N Vonowale and D Thomas, both converted by A Moeke who was also successful with an early penalty.

Two more tries early in the second half, both to N Vonowale who had a powerful game on the wing before moving to centre, again converted by A Moeke saw Grammar take a comfortable lead of 31 - 5. Then two scrappy passages of play allowed Tauranga to score two tries of their own with Grammar's cover defence left wanting and the final score was 31 -15.

AGS 18 v De La Salle College 3 - 14 May 2005

It was important for Grammar to get off to a good start against a confident De la Salle team on Saturday and they did not disappoint, taking an early 7 point lead with a powerful try to N Vonowale after only six minutes. It was another ten minutes before they were able to increase this scoreline, though through a Moeke penalty, despite dominating possession and creating a number of half breaks. There were problems with the Grammar lineout and too many unforced errors which contributed to a rather disjointed first half performance which saw the team go to half time 15 - 0 ahead after a second, rather fortuitous try to halfback S Fisilau.

AGS 49 v New Plymouth Boys' High 5 - 18 May 2005

Tries: N Vonowale (2); D Thomas; W Stanley; J Johansson; S Timani; S Emirali
Conversions: A Moeke (7)

AGS 36 v Sacred Heart College 0 - 21 May 2005

Tries: N Vonowale (2), W Stanley, B Gemmell, S Badger Conversions: A Moeke (4), Penalties: A Moeke (1)

Inaccuracy and insufficient attention paid to perfoming the basics well contributed to a forgettable first half performance by the 1st XV against Sacred Heart on Saturday. Grammar outplayed the opposition in all aspects of play after a strong start which saw N Vonowale score his first try after six minutes. However too much possession was squandered through poor decision making and basic errors throughout the half and the only other points scored were from a Moeke penalty for a lead of 8 - 0 at half time.

Stanley Waqa played for the North Sydney Harold Matthews side in 2004 and was then signed by the Roosters. I heard he is a good players but I never saw him play.

Massive lock. Bloody giant. Hes a Tongan boy, can hit quite hard. I spoes if he was a league player he'd run at prop or second row. Another guy with amazing physical presence. Definitely one of the best players in the team last season.
