Great news. Would love to see something similar happen for Tonga and Samoa, ending up with PNG +1 in QLD Cup and Fiji +1 in NSW Cup

Absolutely brilliant. I thought this would remain a pipe dream for many more years. The success of the the Hunters has no doubt helped their cause

Fiji NSWRL Bid led by Petero Civoniceva & Greg Browne Secure Rights for NSW Cup Franchise

Petero Civoniceva & Greg Browne are proud to announce that they have secured the rights for a franchise rugby league team to play out of Fiji in the New South Wales Cup Competition in 2016. The Fiji Bid Team have received endorsements from the New South Wales Rugby League Board, along with the Fiji National Rugby League and the Fiji Sports Council.

"Our aim is to provide an affordable and exciting atmosphere for all fans and professional opportunities for our local playing squad, who will train full time in our training base in Suva. Our Home Ground will be the National Stadium- ANZ Stadium, Suva."

"Our vision is to be the most popular club in the New South Wales Cup to supporters in Fiji and in Sydney. Financial viability will be assured through building strong partnerships through our Government and Corporate partnerships. The franchise will provide pathway and development programs from juniors through to seniors and will showcase the tremendous Fijian playing talent. This will also provide great exposure for Fijian companies throughout the Australia- Pacific region and promote Fijian Sports Tourism".

The Fiji NSWRL Bid Team are inviting you to help bring a professional sporting franchise to Fiji that will unite and inspire a nation.

Who pays for flying NSW Cup teams to Fiji?

There is a comment that the NRL don't want a national. RG or N9C due to travel costs

NSE Cup teams have even less money

Australian Fijian Rugby League : "In a show of support to the current Fiji NSW Cup Bid the official logo for the bid will be worn on the sleeves of the Test team that will play against Lebanon on Sunday Oct 19. Should the bid be successful the AFRL will provide technical support for the team when (the are) based in NSW (for away games) and will also use Fiji's current training base the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence as its NSW base. Good luck to Chris Tomlinson, Greg Browne and Petero Civoniceva who are the driving force behind this initiative"
