Thought I'd start this in a new thread as a separate discussion now it's final for the season - hopefully it gives rise to some productive discussion on next season's schedule and what can be improved to balance the fairness out. I also started the thread because I can :)

Probably the last thing we win this year. :alcho:

An interesting stat, but probably to much work, would be how many turnarounds of X days each team got.

Canberra, we'll trade you our delicious Monday & Saturday slots for your crummy old Sundays.

Definitely can't complain with 12 FTA games this year. The Brisbane number is utterly ridiculous as per usual

I have been saying for ages, that the only fair way to go is the following.

4 generic timeslots (Fri night, sat night, sun arvo & mon night)

24 games each team = 6 games per timeslot. How bloody hard is it.

I'm happy with 13 FTA. Second most behind Brisbane.

Those that want a communist style sharing of the tv slots interest me. They rarely if ever acknowledge the guaranteed loss in tv rights money that would cause. They also never say if that's something they're willing to live with.

a complete joke...

it wont change though, its all about ratings and supporter numbers.

WHat they dont realise is the division it creates between clubs, making the strugglers struggle more and those who get all the games grow stronger.

Of course you would be happy... who wouldnt be.

People dont want an even share of the tv slots, people like me just want a fair go. For the sharks to have a quater of the season played on a monday night is a JOKE. Brisbane having so many fridays and not 1 single saturday at 730pm when its a 2 game timeslot is completely ridiculous.

Agreed. There is no worse slot (as a fan) than the 3pm slot because it means an ad break between every 4 play the balls. I'd rather listen on radio than watch that game.

I usually record it and watch it later so I can fast forward through the ads. I do this with the second Friday game as well - or just watch it on Fox.

Just double check the Knights Monday games. They were complaining when our game (sharks) was announced as a Monday some weeks back. They said it's their 3rd home & 4th Monday overall.

My heart bled for them, when this week was our 6th & we have 1 more coming.

FTR, I like MNF but I don't like it when my team is playing. 3 (or 4 max) per year each team is fair.

I'm happy to live with it. There is no rational argument against it.

I think most people suggested are league operated schedule is a far superior option and its overall affect on the tv rights money is minimal - see the AFL.

Furthermore, I don't see any complaints people would have. The argument is always that you end up with poor games on TV, but we get the same boring teams on tv even with the media choosing. The media don't choose what game will be exciting - they choose what rates better, but the problem with this is that perpetrates the same teams every year and even if a side is playing attractive football they don't get the FTA coverage to increase their ratings. Not to mention the effects it has on sponsorship money coming in.

Is it fair that the Broncos get more FTA coverage than the Titans? Think about it. Of course the Broncos would have high ratings, because they have existed longer and have more fans - but how could the gap ever be bridged whilst Channel Nine shows the Broncos 17 times, and then the titans not even half of that?

How can the Sharks compete for fans/sponsorship money when they have been seen 3 times when compared to St George, Parramatta, Wests Tigers, Roosters, etc. despite being in much better form than them?

As much as you want to label it as 'communist', the competition is about providing an equal playing field for teams to compete - not a 'who can spend more' competition.

And no team should have 30% of it's games on a Monday night, especially where they have to travel interstate - reducing any the numbers of travelling fans significantly.

I wanna know the figures if they did make it fairer.

would it make a huge difference?

i say no. but i have no figures to back that up, just going off peoples watching of rugby league.
so if people have these figures by all means go nuts.

people seem to watch multiple games these days, so the clubs are largely irrelevant. the big match ups each year attract a larger audience regardless of when they are scheduled.

when FNF is on at 7.30 people watch. they dont go "bah, its the storm and the raiders. no thanks"
its football in prime time. rugby league fans watch the games.

i did the maths the other day at the minimum FTA games a club could get was 4. the sharks have hit that target by being given the sunday game in round 26.

Best way I have found to watch the 3pm Sunday game is to watch the FOX telecast at 6pm (if you have FOX). No adds, HD. Winners all around. They do cut out some of the time, but only the waiting around etc which channel 9 cut out anyway

I disagree with this part but agree with you on the whole. I do go "Broncos v Wets, no thanks" because they're the same teams that keep getting shown on FTA. I don't have foxtel so unfortunately I am subjected to the same teams week in, week out. I don't like or dislike Canberra and I don't like Cronulla or Melbourne but I wouldn't actually mind getting to see them every now and then. There's no shortage of FTA games involving Parra, Stains or the Roosters despite them all being rubbish this year. A more even distribution of games would actually increase the likelyhood of me watching which completely goes against what channel 9 assumes of rugby league supporters.
