So proud of the boys this year. Written off by most at every opportunity & they just keep grinding out wins. Mark 2014 down as a defining season in the clubs history. The club is in the best shape it has been in since 1991.

It has been a tremendous year for the club overall. From juniors through to seniors, off field and on.

We've been through some dark times but they appear to have passed, this season has been great as fan. Much appreciation to all the players, ecspecialy those who have filled in for injuries. And great work to Gus and Ivan, long way to go for the next few years but the clubs turnaround has been remarkable.

There is a lot of work going on in the background which is starting to pay off. It is incredible to note that we made the GF's in Jersey Flegg, Harold Matthews, Holden Cup and NSW cup. This year we are Minor Premiers in Reggies with four games to go.

I was blown away to see that u20's had DZW and Blake playing this week because they still qualify. There were so many complaints about the club not developing juniors and quietly in the background players have been moving u20-reggies-first grade and back down when it makes sense. Blake has been absolutely killing it in reggies, he must be loving running against 20 year olds again. I can't wait to see him in first grade. I think both Whare and Idris will be looking over their shoulders.

For mine and I know there will be those who disagree, Cartwright has shown he will make it in first grade, subject to his body being able to take the week on week grind. He took to it like a duck to water, dodgy Blake Austin tackle aside. DZW still to convince (just Ok), likewise RGC (not standing out in NSW cup yet). Yeo has shown he can do it. Centre, wing, back row, he just gets on with it with minimal fuss and mistakes. What a player he is for his age. Fearless too. He didn't mind letting the Dogs big pack bash him. He has had no wraps from the media but this is his debut season and he is going great guns.

I want to wrap Garth Brennan who coached the u20's to a Premiership and has stepped up to reggies and they then win the minor premiership. Meanwhile, his team has helped develop u20's players and supplied a thousand 5/8ths to first grade. This week in spite of the fact there were 5 players missing from his team, DZW and Blake had dropped back to Holden Cup, they went out and flogged the Bears. They have the highest points for and lowest points against. This bloke can coach, or what?

Finally, I want to wrap Cleary. We have lost games this season, but we always played our guts out. Whatever it is that he does, it certainly makes the players work hard on the field. You can see the players are happy, there are few egos and the young players coming through seem to be able to fit in. I would like us to have more "wow" factor but I know we don't have the players for that yet. When Cartwright, Blake and a few of the other young players hit their straps, I think we then may have a team that will be top eight consistently and which will be able to blow teams away. At the moment we just suffocate teams and slowly squeeze the life out of them. I want us to be able to blow teams off the park like the 91 and 2003 teams could. Here's hoping.......

Agree with pretty much all of that. Brennan is a great coach Being a lower grade coach is harder then top grade as you get the leftovers and need to develop players at the same time.

The thing is whenever we have made changes. I can't think of a bad player we have called up from NSW Cup

Great post Pomoz. Especially the comments about Yeo. Spot on, deserves more congratulations than I think he gets.

Feels good to be a genuine contender. Feels better that other fans keep trying to put the boot in but aren't landing any hits.

I've actually noticed most fans are really giving Penrith some credit after the effort yesterday. Except for gronks like Broncos2010 of course.

If they keep putting up gutsy performances like that I think we'll have a hell of a lot of support come finals time as the underdog battlers.

A good season for consistency. Very rarely lost a game ourselves rather than making the other team win it. Mansour errors cost us the Rabbits game and Moylan/Segs errors the Warriors game, and we didn't show up against the Eels away, other than that the losses don't burn me. Our worst wasn't that bad and we rarely produced it.

On the other side our best hasn't really been good enough to inspire any hope of a premiership this season. But that's ok, that's for next season, the big improvement in consistency this season is a good place to start for next.

You look at the questions we had before this year.
Whether Moylan was up to standard.
If Seg could play 80.
How Cartwright would handle the top Grade.

Throw in Peachey as well and we have sorted pretty much the team just need to get the younger guys to keep on improving

.

Not even the two losses against bottom of the table Cronulla? They bloody burn me.

They hurt definitely but pretty much every team has a boogy team. The Roosters have lost 7 of their last 10 against the Titans for example. Anyway all in all a pretty good season so far imo, finals was the goal and we are looking a good shot at top 4 finish despite a pretty bad injurie list.

The only game we didnt really turn up in was the Roosters game imo.

I don't think we turned up to the second Sharks game or the Eels game either. But all teams lose games like that during a season, so maybe it's a bit harsh to dwell on it.

But still...the Sharks. Twice. *cries*

2 points in those games though. Sure never good losing to the team coming last but atleast we got close seeing we didn't turn up

Disappointing but you could understand the Roosters performance given our lead up. Rabbits we didn't have Peach, Carty in the team and still had the Kingston issue. Sharks losses hurt us. We'd be top if not for them. Every team has coffed up points though and this has been a huge leap in consistency. Doing calculations to figure out if you'll still be in the top 4 is a lot better than figuring out how many results need to line up to scrape into the 8.

Yeah, the Sharks losses piss me off too, but they weren't big losses and Cronulla were near their best for those games.

Yep, a few ex-players with points to prove in those games. The losses even though disappointing and probably cost us the minor premiership were not completely surprising. Look at Soward's two games against the Dragons to see how ex players turn into world beaters against their former club.

When's that going to stop being an excuse, though? Wade Graham and Gordon have never lost to us. That shit has to stop.

I'm not saying it is an excuse. Just really not that surprising. At the end of the day who cares, we are playing September footy.
