What is your thoughts or opinions on the current McIntyre 8 finals system that the NRL uses? Do you prefer it over the AFL's final system (similar to the one the ARL used in 1995/96) and the old top 5?

Wow, you ask alot of questions.
Still, it is better than Hado's questions like "Are Souths munch better this yr"

Top 5 system is the best system. ARL system 1995/6 was ok.

Top 5 is the best but since that wont change anytime soon, I prefer the AFL top 8 system.

Teams 5-8 play elimination.

Teams 1-4 get a guaranteed second chance after the first week. Which in itself should be a reward for making the top 4.

Soz if you think i ask a lot of questions. Im a keen student, even though Im a passionate supporter of the Knights, im still willing to learn a lot that I dont know:D Feel sorry for Hado with his Souths questions.

I prefer the old ARL system.

The top 4 should get an advantage in the first week, instead of 3 and 4 possible elimination.

there ahve been like so many threads on this. myself and a LOT of others have devised their own format (a quick search will provide you the threads if you really want to 'learn'.) But out of the recognised formats the McIntyre system has worked for RL and will continue to be used, imo.

I saw this system used by neither it was something like this not 100% sure if its right

3 v 8
4 v 7
5 v 6

2 lowest ranked losers are eliminated, you go to the next round

1 v highest ranked loser
2 v lowest ranked winner
highest ranked winner v middle ranked winner

same again 2 lowest losers are gone

highest ranked winner v highest ranked loser (semi 1)
middle ranked winner v lowest ranked winner (semi 2)

Grand Final
Winner of semis

just now with positions (higher rank side winning)

WEEK 1
3 v 8
4 v 7
5 v 6

WEEK 2
1 v 6
2 v 5
3 v 4

WEEK 3
1 v 4
2 v 3

G F
1 v 2

I like the current system. Teams 3 and 4 get the home ground advantage. I don't think teams that lose against sides that are lower ranked at home really deserve another chance. The system above would be more hated as there is a lot of ranking and not very straight forward.

The top 5 was fine when we had 12 teams but top 5 for 16 team comp means that there will be numerous dead rubbers in the final few rounds.

The Top 5 is the best by far. But until Souths are good enough to be a top 5 team, I'd have to say I prefer a top 8!

i love the top 8 system just for the sake that there's more games to watch and alot more interest.

That's a system I came up with about 3-4 years ago... but I'm sure someone else came up with it before I did as it's one that makes a lot of sense, IMO - apart from the fact that team 2 can be eliminated in their first finals match

Yeah I saw it on some blog some guy made.

The fact team 2 can go in their first game is the only real flaw of the system
