I have a fair bit to say on this one....

Obviously the first 25 minutes was disastrous and Penrith were perfect. We went set for set for 4 minutest then toops inexplicably dropped that easy catch and it was downhill from there. We actually defended the ensuing set quite well but Klein managed to find a 6 again in the last tackle which was pedantic at best and then from there the game was over 15 minutes later.

I was very disappointed in the starting pack who just seemed unwilling or unable to match the Panthers intensity, add that to the errors and we had no chance in the first half. I think the one play that sums up the difference in effort in the first half was the Watson charge down. Look at the wide view and all the Penrith players immediately rush back whisky literally no one for us did and therefore we couldn't score off the back of it.

Having said that. From the 25 minutes mark was much better and we win the last 55 minutes 10-8. We went back to set for set with them and we found ourselves making metres and creating opportunities. The 2nd half in particular was very good, we came out with intensity and purpose and got ourselves back in to the game. Should have been within 8 if not for Klein but at the end of the day you can't allow yourselves to go down by 22.

I thought defensively we were fine. There was nothing egregious I their tries with two kicks (one off the post) and two of the other tries not even missed tackles, just good play by Penrith to force one and ones.

Going through the whole team yesterday...

Teddy - tried his guys out
Toops - made that terrible error. Also made another off the Cleary floater but that went 2m backwards, no idea why they didn't challenge that.
Sualli'i - thought he was good
Manu - a shadow of himself
Young - did his best
Keary - worked to a standstill by Penrith forwards
S smith - impossible to judge. He has been thrown in to the deep end in the toughest of circumstances.
Collins - very disappointed. His club and origin form are worlds apart
Watson - tackles to a stand still. I think we need to start ZDC
N Butcher - just doesn't have it at finals level
Crighton - worst game of the season. Looked shocked that he got driven back in a tackle and capitulated thereafter.
Sitilli - the only starting forward that has a crack. Ran hard all night.
May - extremely disappointed

Leniu - turned momentum but it was too late
Whyte - phenomenal
Wong - really promising performance, have it to Penrith forwards
ZDC - N/A

I can't say enough about the 3 on the bench. When they were on we looked the better side.

On to next week now. I saw enough yesterday to think we will be fine next week. Sharks winning today is the ideal scenario.

3 Whyte
2 Leniu

Yeah that was a bitterly disappointing performance in that first 30 minutes. Collins was completely ineffective as was most of the pack.

I'm preying Radley can make it back and I'd throw him in at 13 and leave Sitili on the edge where he's been great for a number of weeks now. We just miss that extra physicality Rads brings in the middle.

The bench guys were outstanding. I've been critical of Whyte at times but he was tremendous. Wong too was great and picked up- from his excellent performance the week before against souffs.

We badly need JWH back too - just hoping he can hold it together and play out an 80 and not pick up another suspension.

Agree with all above.

That first half by Penrith was as close to perfection as I’d seen. Their yardage gain compared to ours was insane. We often got just past the halfway on a set of six but they more often got close to our twenty such was their dominance. Very pleased with the second half fight back which says heaps about our spirit. I think we (and particularly the halves) will be better for the run and with Jaz back (maybe Rads?) I think we’ll have the measure of Manly - intercepts aside lol.

I thought we should’ve rested Gus last week against Souths as he’s been on it all year plus add Origin in the mix, it was a tall ask. Collins was disappointing and I fear Manu has already checked out. Our discipline went out the door in the first half and we looked desperate for such a finals experienced team. We genuinely looked spooked by Penrith and fear it won’t be addressed anytime soon.

Would love to know if the ending would still have been inevitable if not for Klein pulling back that pass? I’m convinced he hates us.

Agree re: JWH which makes his suspension more disappointing.

He wouldn't have laid down and let penrith dominate, he would have tried something to turn momentum. Sure, he might have got sent for it but the result is no different to the passiveness the others showed.

I don't think we win if we get within 8 but we damn sure deserved the opportunity to see if we could win.

Defence in the 2nd half was very good even after that point with a touch of class by Clearly being their only try.

Even if we beat Manly and Storm, I can see Jared getting suspended and missing out on the GF lol
