I haven't seen today's telegraph but if it's true then

a: what a waste by the Roosters in buying him. I can't believe the talent they stockpile in premier league, and it seems Soward has well and truly leaprfrogged him.

b: Should the Raiders make an offer? When fit he's a more than handy halfback, he is supremely talented and would unleash Withers to have a roving role.

Nope, don't want him and will probably end up in Melbourne if Orford goes to Souths.

Or at Souths if Orford doesn't go.

At the start of the year I wanted him. Then I watched Raiders vs Roosters PL in Round 5 and Carney ran rings around him.

Totally agree and if Soward can leapfrog him than I think it will take a long time before he gets back where he was at Dragons.Waste of cap space, don't need him, blood Carney better chance of him coming good quicker than him.

I really, really, really want to see Carney go great. But I have not seen one iota of spark from him that suggests he is going to even get close to living up to all of your expectations. Id love to be proven wrong, but from what Ive seen he just doesnt look like he has that extra edge that a halfback needs for first grade.

(yes Im aware he is only new and fresh and whatever, but still, even when a young kid comes on and doesnt play well - you can tell if he has it in him to step up pretty quickly - and everything Ive seen of Todd doesnt fulfill that unfortunately.)

Agree, like I said earlier compare him to Tim Smith and Soward,Todd just lacks that little bit to lead a FG side around the paddock.

I was incredibly keen to sign him last year.

But he's been at best ordinary this year.

If he could re-gain his rookie form, then sure, but otherwise, no thanks.

No Way, We have Lincoln Withers, who can play 7 and Todd Carney making his way up the Ranks.

But not sufficiently better to justify signing him when Carney, Campese and Zillman are all coming through the ranks.

It's also only players that are in Firman's current position that are interested in coming to the Raiders.

Todd Carney is a natural 5/8. He`s by far at his best when he`s running the ball on the fringes of the ruck, burdoning him with the playmaking role is the whole reason his form has slumped. I reckon it`d be wise for the Raiders to look at buying a specialist halfback allowing Carney to spend more time as a 5/8, Campese can play lock/centre. With this in mind, Firman should be looked at as an option at the right price, whilst if the Bunnies sign Matt Orford, i`m sure they`d be looking at offloading Joey Williams and i reckon he`d be an even better option than Firman!

Exactly. Its not going to be Carneys job to lead a team around the park. Its going to be his job to come up with big plays that win games. The experience he is gaining at halfback will help his overall game but he will be a attacking 5/8th long term and he is back to playing there with Zillman at halfback in premier league.

How many blokes bagging Carney watch him on a weekly basis?

The only thing I can gather is people have made an assessment of him as a footballer when he has (from my recollection) started 2 games. 1 against the Knights where the side was as depleted with injuries worse than I have ever seen and the 2nd against the Tigers where no Raiders turned up to play. Besides that, Elliott makes him come off the bench with 20 minutes to go and people expect him to produce magic. The only time he came off the bench and was given some decent minutes was last year at Gosford against the Dogs. Go back and look at the tape, he controlled periods of that match against the eventual premiers and even at the death came within a whisker of snatching victory for his side with a wonderful cross kick.

If people want to bag his development, get stuck into Elliott. It is all well and good to say that Tim Smith and Soward seem to be better but their coach's have trusted their ability. Carney is the NSW U19's Halfback as well as the Junior Kangaroos Halfback, so obviously he has something.

I don't think B Smith is too much better coach than Elliott. But yes when the guy was red hot he was wasted,I totally believe that you try players when they are showing good form like Ale now. It's surely his make or break for FG.If he's good enough he will flourish and if he's not up for it we will find out.At least we don't die wondering. It's games now that we can blood them not finals time or when the team is getting flogged than you throw them in like Carney was few times.
