You know what. I agree with him :(

I don't think they should reduce the number of rounds but the Tri-Series 2 years in a row is just too much. Once every second year IMO

Darren Lockyer's comments were spot on. They players know whats best for them and dont need office dwellers like Fitzgerald making comments on their behalf.

If we want to strengthen the international game, which we must do in order for the game to be successful down the track in an ever 'shrinking' world, we must make room for more international matches or a dedicated international season after the domestic premierships.

One obvious step is to shorten the domestic comps.

IMO.

Hurry up and retire Dennis you friggen dinosaur

Cheers.

Indeed JW.

Dennis should start thinking about additional streams of revenue and stop his innecessant bleating. He might as well forget about keeping his post at the football club if the Leagues club can't make meaningful contributions. If you believe all his bleating about the apocolyptical vision of the pokie tax he bleats out...

seriously get ur heads out of it....
The NRL has already said that they can not shorten the season...so even darrens comments are valid it can not happen....fitzy supports international football...he is just saying considering the length of the season, tri nations should not be played every year.

T-ba.....think of the teams like roosters and broncos that have got a number of players running around, due to the amount of game they have to play they are a real chance of getting burn out and missing long periods of the NRL comp.
And seeing that ur a manly supporter ur season revolves heavily around players like Kennedy...so u need him on the field as much as possible...even though he will probably play 10 games 4 you due to his consistant injuries...even more time out could harm ur season

I can't stand Fitzgerald either but he's right on this occasion. Rep players will be in pre season training again before they know it. Maybe shortening the season is the better option but the NRL doesn't seem interested in doing that any time soon. Why can't Fitzgerald have an opinion like you guys do? I'm sure he likes reading his own quotes in the papers but it's not his fault they come to him every time they're short on footy news.

So what?

If the clubs are so worried about players burning out, they can rest them from training for part of the long pre-season. Simple solution. The price you pay for having good players is the toll that rep matches takes on their availability for clubs/training. If the TriNations doesn't go ahead next year, the blokes won't be having a rest - they will be in pre season training. f**k that. Send 'em over to play for their country in front of packed stadiums (the poor dears) and do some good for rugby league while they are at it. If they aren burnt out when they arive home (in December, four months before the NRL comp starts), their clubs can give them a rest.

it's not his fault they come to him every time they're short on footy news.

No, but it is his fault that he is a complete and utter f**kwit.

he's proven in the past how little he does...He'd rather have us merge with Union or run his soccer club...

Well...I'm sure the other clubs will be quite happy helping them with this 'problem'. By gum, I'd love to have too worry about burn out because I've managed to shove 10 rep players under the cap...

WTF? I care more about the the game as a whole than I do Manly. If (Under some odd circumstance) a Manly player injures himself on the international arena, I'll be proud he fought hard for his country. If that player has fatigue issues, Perhaps the club should have criticism drawn at it for running him ragged off the field...

Fitzy is a goose, but I think he is right in a way.

The 'Roo tour used to be the ultimate for a player (aside from the Premiership). Why don't we have the Tri-nations every few years and make it more like the Kangaroo tour, obviously minus the club games of course.

It would give players more to look forward to, and it would stop this 'player burnout' we supposedly have.

If they want a domestic international season, fine. Shorten the NRL comp and have a few test like they do in Union. It doesn't have to always be against the Kiwis or Poms.

Why not have some test matches against the likes of PNG, Fiji, Italy, Argentina, Russia, France, USA etc. They are League Minnows yes, but this would help exposure of the game to be increased.

Yawnion don't always play against the powerhouses every year. They mix it up a bit. They might play against the Kiwis, then they'll play Italy and Scotland and Romania etc.

League should do something similar I think.

Whinge, whinge f@cking whinge. Im sick and tired of people coming out, whether it be CEO's or players, and saying the elite players are getting burnt out. Well boo f@cking hoo  I and im sure many others would happily swap positions with these elite players who earn around 300k a year playing one game of footy a week and then having an end of season holiday. Not to mention the off-season.

Geez they've got it tough don't they #-o

Stop complaining and be happy you have the best profession in Australia.

Go and bash the absolute shit out of your body for one day a week, 30 weeks a year ... i want to see bruises, i want to see corks, i want to see basically everything that an average rugby league player suffers EVERY week.

THEN come back and whinge to me that its too tough to keep up with this pace.

I bet most of you whinging about the players complaining wouldnt have the faintest idea whats its like to get your body SMASHED to the absolute shit, every single week for 30+ weeks straight.

Sure, no worries. Give me $250 000 a year and I'll get a corked thigh every week doing something I love. Rugby League players aren't slaves, they are doing the job that THEY want to do.

Why not just have a set up like the cricket. Play internationals during the season, club football continues but without the players that are picked for the test team.

They don't stop club cricket or state cricket just because teams are missing a few players. If what everyone here says is true and there is plenty of talent running around in the lower grades, then no club will be missing out.

Also, on what Fitzgerald has said I agree 100%. You can't hold it every year otherwise it will lose any thought of being a prestige international event.

It should be done every 2nd year IMO. It would make it seem like more of an event this way rather than every year, & it would give elite players a rest. Let's face it, players in the Australian team don't get a break. It's a sure way to get players dis-interested, dispite how good it may be for the International game.
