Why not just have a set up like the cricket. Play internationals during the season, club football continues but without the players that are picked for the test team.
They don't stop club cricket or state cricket just because teams are missing a few players. If what everyone here says is true and there is plenty of talent running around in the lower grades, then no club will be missing out.
Also, on what Fitzgerald has said I agree 100%. You can't hold it every year otherwise it will lose any thought of being a prestige international event.
