We should play heaps of trial games in the offseason, we have plenty of possibles in most positions and i think how players combine with other players will decide who makes the original starting side.
I don't think it works like that westie. you can't judge a combination on one match. team combinations can take an entire season to develop and because one combination doesn't work for one match doesn't mean that pairing should be ruled out. Trial matches have very little bearing on the season westie, they are besically to warm the side up for the regular season. Figuring out combinations has to be left to the regular season.
Which is why I said play a few games. Combos will develop at training and can be assesed in a game situation up at gosford or wherever we play.
you don't play lots of trials for the reason that there are 26 rounds to play after the trials. The beggining of the season is used to test combinations. trials are a warm up and aren't a very good way of testing performances of players. It is mainly to decide which players to release and which to hold on to.
I think Sheens has decided which players will released and held on to by now.
as in young players like Heignington who made the side after performing well in the trials (and I'm sure some strong training sessions). Other players like Obst and Nightingale were probably put out of sheens's plans after poor performances.
