The issue is he is paid to write. He is on these programs and writes these articles to give his opinion. Now channel 9 is entitled to do that and the Nrl can’t do too much about it. I feel most people look straight through his obvious bias. What annoys me is the fact that there isn’t an equally opinionated Nrl person to oppose him or discredit his articles. To win the union world cup they basically have two hard games to win and that's it.

In 2011 they beat Argentina 33-10 Australia 20-6 and France in the Final 8-7

In 2015 they flogged France 62-13 Sth Africa 20-18 and Australia 34-17

Even in 1987 they flogged Scotland 30-3 and Wales 49-6 before beating France in the Final 29-9

It would be nice if someone actually countered Fitsimmons criticism of rugby league with facts like the South African government won't recognise the code as separate to union therefore making it impossible to receive govt funding. That sort of stuff would shut him up! Then an informed person could elaborate on all the other well hidden facts / obstacles facing rugby league elsewhere. Getting the truth out there might help!

Really?! How stupid that a journalist in one of the world’s strongest RL heartlands doesn’t even bother to learn about where the sport is played.

Still, things have improved. 15 to 20 years ago some rugby league journalists didn’t seem to have any idea the closest neighbour to Australia, PNG, played the game.
