Five Years To Fix Knights

Yeah, I'd much rather go through some more short-term pain now and know they're doing it right this time. The quick fix we thought we'd found with Tinks seemed to good to be true, and it turned out to be just that. I'm sure the NRL will put in charge people that know what they're doing. I have the highest respect for Dave Smith.

The good thing is at least we appear to be startIng on a sound financial base. Hopefully we can keep funding junior development as this seems to be paying off in the 16s 18s and 20s

We have already been 'rebuilding' for 8 or 9 years, what's another 5 on top of that. I bet nothing will be different in 5 years but we will keep getting these fluff pieces.

I'm staying positive, Dave Smith is a sharp operator.

That said, if they keep midley on as CEO I'm checking out

The Tinkler ownership shows you cannot buy titles. The foundations need to be set first. I feel if anything Bennett has seen a side of the NRL he has been shielded from. The struggle. The only issue now for him is to decide whether he wants to truly cement his legacy and take this place forward or if at his middle age he has had enough. Ben Ikin believes he won't leave. I would take his word over any of the paper speculation. He did make the call on him coaching newcastle before anyone else did. Call it family inside information but if he doesn't know then no one knows.

Id be interested to know John Quayle's part in this...

Is he now a part of the ARLC, part of the knights future plans or just a ring in for this only.....

5 years? He'll be nearly 70. No wonder he hasn't officially committed yet.

T.

I don't think Bennett was referring to on the field or anything to do with him at all really. He was referring to how long it's going to take for the NRL to get the right people in to run the club from a management perspective and get us where we need to be overall club wise.

It had nothing to do with Bennett or his position at all. He was just in the meeting and was asked what was talked about.

So I wonder how long Wayne thinks it will take to fix the mess he's created on the field. Also wonder what Wayne thinks he's worth per year now after 3 years and a 40 odd per cent winning record

You really do have a grudge...

Just saying it how it is. Most people look at Wayne's accomplishments and think he's some sort of demigod, I look at his record at the knights and go by that. I just think in his time here he's made more bad calls than good ones

No you're not. You're saying what your perception of it is. Not everyone here believes that the position we're in on the ladder and some of our losses have been the sole fault of the coach.

I never once said our position is the sole fault of the coach, but his lack of a modern style game plan, refusal to have a wrestling coach and sticking with Gids at hooker for over half a season has contributed to our position on the table. I've said many times if we were say 12th or 13th, I'd be ok with that considering the circumstances but that's just a pipedream at present, we're last. To me a winning percentage of 43% over a period of 2.5 years is hardly acceptable for any coach (Elliot got sacked with 45% win percentage) especially the highest paid coach in history. I'd also be more acceptable of our position if we had a young team but we have a dad's army of a team that's going to need a major overhaul for any incoming coach if Bennett doesn't stay.
Let's not muck around, in all honesty we'll need atleast 5 or 6 new signings to be contenders next year, that's a predicament that is probably worse than most sides hence why I say we're abit of a mess on the field. Also would you keep Bennett on his current deal for next year?

Where does this refusal to have a wrestling coach thing come from. It's wrong.

I've spoken to Graham Waerea who was the wrestling coach under Smith and Rick Stone, he's told me he was brought in for the back end of last year at the insistence of Stone and Bedsy and was punted on the eve of the finals. From what he's told me the team don't have a specialist wrestling coach ATM and players have had to see him in their own time. He could be fibbing but I have no reason to doubt his claims given his history with the club
