Flanno banning Christians try celebration

Reading that Flanno has banned Christian Tuipulotu from his 'Show Me the Money' try celebration is really disappointing. 😞

This will be the first time I disagree with our new coach, but seriously—why ban such a fun, positive moment? I love that celebration; it brings so much joy to the game, and Christian has been playing so well this season. Has he completely lost the plot??

I agree with the coach.

Yep, if he scores an 80m match winner in the dying seconds, cool. Not when you're still 18 points down on the scoreboard.
I honestly don’t think there’s any harm in showing a bit of personality, especially in sports like the NRL. In fact, I think it could actually help boost ratings. When players let their personalities shine, it makes the game more relatable and entertaining for fans. It’s also a great way to create storylines and rivalries, which keep people engaged long after the game ends. Plus, it could bring a fresh, exciting vibe to the sport, which could draw in new viewers.

The NRL, in particular, could probably benefit from this kind of energy—it’s already a high-intensity sport, and adding personality only makes it more dynamic. Sure, there’s a fine line between fun and disrespectful behavior, but I think players showing their unique sides can only help the sport grow in the long run.

Unfortunately, and as I have alluded to over the past six months since our fade out at the back end of last season.

Flanno is definitely the coach to take us forward.

There are still a lot of players in the current group who need to either be reigned in or be pushed out the door, as they aren't buying into the culture that Flanno is trying to build.

This is going to take another few years yet. The supporter group will need to be grounded in its expectations during this time. How many more coaches are we going to need to sack? Be careful what you wish for in terms of an alternative (Dean Young, Ben Hornby - hell Mary is still hanging around the place like a bad smell and probably still has supporters on the Illawarra side of the boardroom).

Personally, I'm sick and tired of the whole sack the coach narrative (of which this is another one of those) for two reasons:

1. Where were these journalists, when for years, we had an incompetent chinless and bald peanut at the helm with no media blowtorch?

2. Who is actually running this club, i.e. who is making the decisions behind closed doors and building our culture? The management + coaching staff or the players? As, if it's been the players over the last 15 seasons (because clearly the management & coaching staff have been unable to do it), it's failing miserably.

Can he also ban the team from losing and/or playing like shit?
Can he ban himself from targeting his own players in a post match presser?
Can he ban himself from recruiting washed up 30+ year old unwanted players from other clubs?

I don't have a problem with what Flanno has done here. He said he'd be in cranky mode this week and so he should be.

I'm all for players showing joy on the field, (and granted he'd had a good game) but Tuipolotu celebrating like he'd scored a 100m solo matchwinner after doing literally the bare minimum as a winger to score it (running 20m to the corner and falling over the line) struck me as a bit dickheadish.

when he did it on the weekend he was clearly taking the piss from all the media hype in the week prior

Flanagan - When you step within the four walls of the club, put on the jersey or training gear, and either train or play the game - you abide by the Dragons standards and culture.

Bellamy - it doesn't matter if your name is Slater, Cronk or Smith ... or these days Papenhauzen, Munster, Grant ... when you walk into the Melbourne Storm inner sanctum you are a cloud which makes up the Storm, and you abide by the standards and culture.

Bennett - doesn't matter if your name is O'Neil, Hancock, Renouff, Lockyer, Langer ... or these days Mitchell, Walker, Graham, Wighton, Murray ... when you walk into the inner sanctum you are a Bronco or Rabbitoh, and you abide by the standards and culture.

The vast majority of players in our current squad have no right to be carrying on like rock stars if you ask me (definitely not in the same vein as most of the other names mentioned here).

Flanno is spot on. NRL is heavily sponsored by betting and that celebration can be taken as him betting on himself and getting a payout for try scorer. I am surprised they are not investigating Christian and the Saints for tanking games like the one on the weekend because of it? It could put the club in the spotlight for unwanted reasons and the journos will find another reason to pounce and give them a years worth of bad headlines again. Flanno clearly trying to avoid and mud being thrown at the club as he like us fans are getting sick of it.

I am surprised the NRL are not banning Saints and deducting them 4 competition points for the celebration, fining the club hundreds of thousands and suspending Christian for 12 weeks (more than Ezra). Just kidding they cannot be too obvious with their hate for certain clubs.

Not taking answering baited questions in post match pressers and not leaking obviously in house things to reporters like banning post try celebrations would be a good start.
But does that address the issue of winning games or recruitment that you mentioned? Who would you have recruited & how would you have the side playing?

Good questions.
R&R has been tricky since Flanno came. Flanno has tried his best to get the best of what's available and probably the pick of the bunch will be Holmes. Atkinson is what we need and next season can't come quick enough. Getting Ilias at short notice was lucky, but a huge gamble. My rant about the oldies was more in frustration that we lost more than anything after Cook and Gutho being talked up all offseason as being leaders etc but failed to lead us to victory over pretty much a NSW cup side.
Arguably 1sts and cup teams on paper looks more balanced than last season but we've had rotten luck with middles (Molo saga, Sele and Couchman injuries). I'd be looking to blood LPT and Reed to see if they can handle 1sts. We'll know if things are getting better for our future in how U19's and NSW cup go.
In how the team plays it's too slow off the line in defence and everything looks low energy. Our middles get dominated in tackles way too easily. They need to run more varied lines and offload more often and need more support players to keep the defence guessing.
It's early days in this season and my rants have been more in disappointment than anything.
At the end of the day I'm just a pleb on a forum venting an opinion and I'm not inside the 4 walls at the club seeing how they train/ do video etc.
