This club's premiership window is a minimum of 3 years away. We are much better off signing two good players for 500k that will peak in 2028 than DCE who will be retired by then. We need to concentrate on longterm goals and to build a team, not more 'sugar hits' of the last few years.
Reed is a good prospect and a work in progress.
Atkinson is on his way tobe a good five-eighth.
We need a player to pair with Atkinson until Reed is ready.

I agree that development is crucial but picking young halfbacks early is a tough game. Parramatta failed to see the potential in Galvin.

The coach just needs to handle young halves correctly. If they know they're part of building to the future and not expected to be superstars now, they'll be fine. That's the story we need to sell, this club can't buy a team of superstars.

Yes, and all current superstars were once young. Someone must know what to look for. Given the sort of dough they earn these days, there will be an oversupply soon enough.

Fair enough but I can't agree.
This club needs to decide, do we want to keep signing players that can win the Dally M, and possibly make the 8, or a team that can one day win the Premiership. We haven't got the money to buy a comp. We need to risk getting the wooden spoon to build a premiership team.

All this talk about halves is BS…. What we really need are some marquee middles because the current pack are cream puffs…. don’t even think about spendin$1 m on a half when we don’t have a forward pack
Agree. Weyman, Costigan, Young, Scott, Creagh, Smith, Fein, Merrin, Prior, Saffy. That's what won us the comp. 1 to 7 were the icing on the cake. Hornby and Soward were great, but they weren't superstars.

But people apparently don't know what to look for. Remember Canterbury and JT?

Or the opposite, Sullivan and Amone? They were going to be stars. But it is a common problem that lower grade stars often choke at the NRL level.

Throw in Hornby was a make shift 7 ....... Need a pack that are tough and get over the advantage line otherwise your 6 and 7 are restricted to do much ........

I find it interesting in the past we had fullbacks become an excellent half/five-eight. Now days they aren't good quality anymore. I don't rate Hynes from the Sharks in this case. I can't see Slone would become one either.

Hornby is like Lockyer that converted to other roles. Both players don't run as fast as Slone.

Reading an article from buzz. The dragons still have three million dollars to spend on there cap, i'd pull the trigger and sign Tyran Wishart and have our halves pairing of Wishart/Atkinson.
Wayne Bennett/Souffs had seen enough of Lachlan and I've seen enough of Flanno junior to suggest we need to go down a new path, waiting for Reed or for Jo Bloggs to develop into a Premiership star, is like JC to make his second coming.

Yes, it's been imminent now for 2,000 years.

Braith will be devastated. He thinks he would be perfect for the Dogs. Just like every top player that all of a sudden becomes available. There should be a betting market for this. As soon as a gun player is available, what minute of the show will Braith say he will be perfect for the Dogs.

The other night on NRL360, Hoops said that people new about Daley wanting out from mid last year? I am not sure about you all but I only heard about Daley wanting out this week? So the media knew about this yet kept it quiet for months? Wow.

Molo, Lomax and Hunt were in the papers every week, nearly every day as soon as they got a sniff they were not happy at Saints. Hunt went to town with it in the end and went public especially during origin camps such is the character of this bloke, but Lomax never really said much at all. It was all the press hammering Zac which could of led him to make a decision he has since regretted as stated by 1 journo. I just wish all players/clubs have that level of respect when there is some fall out and not just the media's favourite clubs.

Back to DCE, it is a strange decision and he definitely has signed. It has Roosters all over it but so do alot of these and they miss out. Dogs will throw a hotel his way and he will sign there for 500k or less. They will get a big gun to pursue boxing or wrestle 35 guys to get some salary cap space. If Saints landed DCE it would be at the cost of losing some awesome players like Rava, Lawrie, RFM, Luciano, Sele, Illias, etc that have really made a huge impact to the Dragons and play such a big role in winning games. We can't lose players of that calibre.

We might have 3 million in 'the cap' but I don't think we've got the actual 3 million to spend. I dont think the cap has ever been our problem.
