Flanno's New Signings

I would not be giving up hope for Atkinson for 2025. As soon as I heard Sharks were interested in Volkman it makes you feel they are looking for a replacement for Atkinson and once they get someone may be open to releasing hin in 2025.

For Atkinson and Wishart it is a big gamble for them to not push hard for a release for 2025. They are now more or less assured a Starting spot at Saints. If they wait till 2026 you never know what is around the corner as they may cop a serious injury and all of a sudden no club is interested. If I were Saints I would not be giving the option of them coming in 2026 just make it 2025 or never and they will agitate for a release.

Cant help but think Flanno is a crap salesman. Evidently the big money was on us to land Terral May but the Tigers were more convincing and snatched him from our grasp. Not the first big fish our coach has missed. To be blunt so far all he has been able to bring here are 30 year olds with probably their best years behind them.

May is a westy who didn’t want to move, with mates at the tigers

but yeah you’re right all 3 of his signing are absolutely terrible…..😂

In Flano we trust...but in this instance if money was the reason we missed May I have to disagree with Flano...an extra $100-150K per season I think would have been worthwhile to snare a big, mobile forward that we are missing at the moment....but what do I know..

The problem is $150,000 per season more headline is only $75,000 in his pocket. Yes, that’s a lot of money however compared to playing with mates and less driving I’d say it’s not enough, so you offer say $300,000 a season more and if it doesn’t work out we all complain he was paid to much. It’s not easy.

With Saints missing out of these props, the current and youngster props in the club need to step it up because they can take the spot in both hands and be the prop in years to come and be upgraded. The need to work extra hard in off season training to show they are needed or know next season they will definitely be gone.

If Saints can get the Couchmans and Fafita to become solid first graders then it will work out best for the fans and club as I would rather a junior coming through the ranks than from another team. Remember the days of Luke Bailey, Ryles, Merrin, Poore, etc. Saints always produced good front rowers, it's just the previous 2 boof heads (Mary.Hook) who let it get to this stage by not focusing on it in the past and bringing in hasbeens like Woods, Maguire, Burgess, etc.

May was being courted by Bulldogs, Eels, Tigers and us. Of those 4 we were always the least likely. Not sure where you get get your information that " evidently the big money was on us to land Terral May".

I certainly would like to think that the young Dragons that we have that are being developed to be the next middle forwards will get plenty of game time next year. We did have a great nursery of prop forwards years ago. The thing is though at that time there weren't as many islander guys playing for clubs and they are in abundance now particularly out west and these guys are the big, burly, hard bastards that each club would have at least a couple in their squad and I think we have those coming through.

I hope that Flanno can get a middle forward that has all of the credentials needed to be an enforcer for the team. It is needed nowadays together with more fleet footed guys in the forward pack. Eisenhuth is a trier but isn't a thinker and doesn't seem to be able to pass the ball. Then we have Lawrie who stops dead when some opposition players touch him. Attack and defence is what today's forwards have to be good at and hit hard doing those things.
