I fully agree.

They have virtually signed an agreement to tell kids to stuff league.

We can do without having them back.

I cannot beleive they have named an AFL academy after a bloke that has never even played a game of AFL, not even of z grade quality. Never even played the sport.

And to think there were turds on here who piped up about the ARL refusing to allow Folau to be a waterboy for the Tongan RL side, knowing full well that this man will discouraging Tongan kids to play the game of RL in the future.

not that it will ever work, but at least the afl are attempting to spread their sport in the pacific islands. i cant remember the nrl, rlif, arl, nzrl sending players over trying to spread the rugby league gospel or building academies. nrl clubs have never recruited from tonga and samoa and have barely scouted fiji and png, its dsigraceful!

Bob Abbott (ARL) did heaps of work in the Pacific in 1980s and early 1990s, but even he couldn't get much headway back here in Oz.

Told me recently spent years "asking writing and begging the League to introduce a Pacific Islands team (Oceania)" into international RL.

Was told "too expensive - too hard to implement etc. etc."

May happen now, but could/should have happened 15-20 years ago.

Even to SL's credit they took 1996 trial matches & the 9s tournament to Pacific nations.

Nobody is saying that being a water boy or representing QLD in the Origin after he'd signed with AFL was encouraging Tongans to play AFL.

There is little doubt though that once he was paraded as the AFL's latest recruit (during the origin build up) - he was going to be used as a weapon by the AFL to get kids playing that sport and in some cases reject rugby league.

This wasn't just about getting people through the gates, it's about using the image of Folau(a person who had never even kicked an AFL ball before) to promote a generational change over to AFL in 'rugby' strongholds.

I just don't get this idea that being water boy for Tonga is an honor - if anything it's an honor for them to have Folau there in camp.

Heck Australia could've used Folau more than he could've used them going by their performances in the Four Nations...
