Footy Show - Female viewers

The existing Footy Show thread has gone in a different direction - this is a separate issue:

I noticed the show have brought in a female host/additional personality to run some stories on the player's wives - Fifi Botox or something?

She said the females wanted less talk about footy and more talk about the player's wives, girlfriends and families.

It is a cheap attempt to win the female audience share, if I've ever seen one. Reminds me a bit of the Frontline series back in the mid-90s. The fictional Frontline show brought in an expert to tell them they needed to run women's stories to attract the female audience.

Do the Footy Show struggle so much for the female audience? Do they really need a female audience?
Will the additional female-specific segements deter existing viewers from the show?

Importantly:
Is the Footy Show moving away from being a show about footy to instead being a show that occassionally mentions footy or might have a few footy faces?

I'm becoming less interested every year - they don't even have sufficient discussion at the start of the show anymore...... nearly lost me, one more week I think. :?

Why the sudden interest in the female demographic?

Personally I like to see the players on the show having a bit of a laugh, talking a bit of footy and just showing a part of their "human" side.

Having been starved of any of the C9 Footy Shows' up until the past couple of years I perhaps haven't had the exposure to now feel cheated or blase about the content.

We don't get Fox Footy Shows here in NZ so I'm stuck with Channel 9 programmes or nothing.

The only Fox coverage we get is the Saturday night Double Headers and even then that can sometimes be a replay or delayed coverage depending on how much Union there is to cover at the same time.

I watch the footy show....although never for the footy. Thats not what it is about, never has. I'm not afraid to say that i am a fan, i find some actually most quite amusing. You have to take it with a grain of salt. It is good to see the other side of footy and as for the so called attracting the female fan....Why not? I'm not saying that i think it will work but hey why not try? It's all good for the game. I have friends that are not as into footy as myself but watch the footy show....They actually understand around 10% of what i say now....for that i am thankful, maybe they'll turn into fanatics...

I pay for my footy coverage now and sometimes even the Warriors matches are not shown live such is the dominance of Union

I have 2 dedicated 24/7 sports channels, and ESPN to choose from. The only FTA footy coverage we get is the Warriors match and then you have to suffer ads throughout the game and half the time it is delayed coverage.

I guess it's going to take a Warriors Premiership before we see any change in attitude towards League here in NZ as it is perceived to be a very poor cousin to Union.

I totally agree with that.
Thursday night footy show - light hearted fun
Sunday footy show - serious footy talk...

I always thought that they had enough females watching, and i agree, it is getting way to boring. it is called the footy show, and they hardly ever talk about footy noawdays!!! I liked it better in the earlier years when they actually did talk about footy!!

I can't see the harm in it. I thought the interview with Maddog's fiance was funny -- I enjoyed it. My only beef is with 'No Talent Time'. I can't stand that segment. It's like they're trying to revive 'Hey Hey It's Saturday'. :?

Looks to me like they're trying to attract more females to the game in general, especially in light of all the bulldogs and storm stuff. This is evident in the NRL add campaign. Only seemd logical that the Footy Show will echo the NRL's wishes.

Why do you reckon? Maybe a little thing calle rape alligations.
I think it's ridiculas.... It's stupid and demeing... I don't care about their girlfriends and wives.
It's just stupid and I doubt it will last long... and their trying to get the women into the sport... but that idiot is still going on about them in their speedo's and their chests and stuff... it all has to come back to sex... it annoys the shit out of me.
