Force Want Players In The NPC
NewstalkZB
The Western Force have confirmed they will be sending several of their players to New Zealand to play in the Premier Division of the new NPC, rather than having them return to the "lower standard" of Sydney club rugby.

Force coach John Mitchell says his players need experience, and it is what is in the best interests of the Force, with players needing the right direction after the Rebel Sport Super 14 and looking to next year.

Mitchell says the players need a lift in standard but the moves are not pleasing Sydney club coaches, where most of the Force players are based outside the Super 14.

The former All Blacks coach wants his players to gain experience in the NPC because he says it is a better standard than Sydney's club competition where most play after the Super 14.

He is in discussions with his CEO and chairman over who is released and who isn't. He is willing to risk upsetting coaches across the Tasman for what is best for his side.

Mitchell says it will likely be just a handful of players who come to New Zealand.

The Force play the Blues on Friday night at North Harbour Stadium in the opening game of week 10 of the competition.

The truth hurts sometimes... but a bloody good move for the Force and for Australian Rugby.

Good to see, maybe this will wake up the ARU and force them to make a better domestic comp.

agree with all... this will help the players more, and help the force because of this.

The ARU does need to wake up on this issue.

Why help them?

We should be developing our own players rather than help build the Wallabies up further.

Dead right.

Why help them even further, when they'll stab us in the back at the next opportunity?

I don't see the point of it. The only upside would be to assist Australia.

Hello? Say what?

If they can't get a gig in a decent comp, not our problem. They have the Super 14. It'd be like the Warriors sending 7-8 players over to Sydney to play in the Sharkies trial matches to get a bit of fitness up. What's doing?

its not like the force are saying that these players are going to be forced into a team. i would assume a few of the guys (like higledorf and james) may have had offers from an npc team. and the force have said that is the only competition that u will be allowed to play in apart from the system that they are going to undertake (vs reds, tahs and brumbies minus wallabies, and are trying to play some south african or asian teams or they can play in perth domestically).

please naki go after william ryder.

Hangon I thought that a stipulation of playing for the force was you had to play for a Perth club rugby side?

Wasn't part of the Force's mission to develop rugby in WA?

I was fairly sure that was true Timbo.

Douglas, why do we need to go after said players? Brock James I know has had good times in Taranaki, but he looks a distinctly average Super 14 player. I'd rather the black and golds developed someone from their own club environment.

We shouldn't be recieving help from the Kiwis, if the ARU got our own blodoy domestic comp sorted we wouldn't be in this problem.

sam young - u cost us the ranfurly shield.

all our young talent and older talent have hit the highway down to welly (conrad smith, jimmy gopperth and chris masoe) just resigned jason eaton in time when welly stuck their nose up trying to get him.
