Forget the details, the No.1 man was the one and only No.1

THE DETAILS on the scoresheet can sometimes hide the facts in rugby league. Jarryd Hayne proved that yesterday. A quick glance at the list of scorers at Parramatta Stadium yesterday shows no sign of the Eels fullback. But Hayne was everything to this game.
With a monumental rescue effort against Manly, the freakish 22-year-old elevated the already dizzying ''wow factor'' about his abilities to new heights. It should be remembered, he is a mere mortal - he lay, clearly hurting, on the ground after a collision of bodies near full-time - but it was difficult to believe as he waved his magic wand in the final 30 minutes.
He set up three tries, the first a 108-metre team effort that will only be denied try-of-the-season honours if someone does what Hayne did running backwards, to haul a dead-and-buried Eels side back from a 20-0 deficit to win 24-20.
The signature moment came just after the hour mark and revived memories of his dazzling individual try against St George Illawarra in last year's qualifying final. The only difference was this time he wasn't credited with four points. He may as well have been, taking a pass from winger Luke Burt near the rear of his own in-goal area before stepping Manly defenders Jamie Lyon and Glenn Stewart.
That was only the start. Hayne, hitting the throttle, then sped past an outstretched Jason King, the Sea Eagles prop, and also had too much gas in those yellow boots for the diving Shane Rodney. A couple of seconds before, the Eels - 14 points behind - had been staring at a goal-line drop-out. Suddenly Hayne was approaching halfway, and at top speed.
Tony Williams, no slouch of a man despite his 114-kilogram frame, was next to slip off as Hayne dealt him a right-hand fend. He would stumble eventually, just on halfway, as Sea Eagles prop Josh Perry somehow loomed despite his lack of notoriety as a speedster. Manly were not off the hook, though. From the ground Hayne hit the chest of his five-eighth Daniel Mortimer, who sent Timana Tahu racing away to score.
''I sort of was worried about the in-goal,'' Hayne said. ''Me and Burty, we're great together and it was a really smart option by Burty. I could have gone for the ball but I just let Burty go for it, for that pass. It was just a lucky pass; full credit goes to blokes like Daniel Mortimer for pushing and Timana Tahu for those double efforts. It wouldn't come about if it wasn't for those blokes. They had a major part in the try.''
If you say so, Jarryd.
Heating up, Hayne then featured heavily in the Eels' next try, which brought them within two points of Manly. Chipping over the Sea Eagles' line on the fourth tackle, he could not regather but Burt, his trusty offsider playing his 200th match, could. The winger passed back to Hayne, who found hooker Kris Keating on his outside. Keating then spiralled a long pass out to centre Joel Reddy to touch down.
The job was not quite finished but with Hayne in this mood there was an air of inevitability about proceedings. He did not disappoint. With three minutes remaining, Hayne again took the controls on the Eels' right-side attack and, fooling three Manly defenders, delivered a long, cut-out pass. The disbelieving 15,602-strong crowd held its breath and Eric Grothe caught it. Burt, fittingly, kicked the conversion from the sideline to wrap it up.
Hayne revealed that Anthony Watmough, the Manly second-rower, had issued him with a challenge as he shaped up for the killer play. ''It was funny, halfway through 'Choccy' [Watmough] yelled out to me. [He said] I was either rocks or diamonds. That last pass really demonstrated the diamonds part of it.''
Eels coach Daniel Anderson could not agree more. ''Phenomenal. Just unbelievable,'' he said of Hayne's performance. ''He just single-handedly turned the game in my opinion with some unbelievable skill. He basically wrestled the game out of Manly into his own possession and we went with him.''
Mortimer, who played a key role in the incredible length-of-the-field try that started it all, said Hayne's brilliance in those few moments changed the face of the match.
''He's a very calm head and he just injects himself at the right time,'' Mortimer said. ''He sits back and everyone else does the hard metres and then he just puts himself into the game. That's what the good players do. When he's playing with that confidence, not many people can stop him.''

I thought Hayne did some brilliant things but did he really deserve the 3 dally m points? I thought MoiMoi (whilst quiet in the first half) turned the match with some great runs long before Hayne did his great one. Hayne was pretty subdue for the majority of the match.

Points went 3 Hayne, 2 Keating and 1 Manly dude.

We are all fortunate in witnessing the greatest player that Parra will ever produce.

He is King, he is Jarryd Hayne.

So he sets up 3 tries, wins us the game and shouldn't get a point ? Please go take your medication.

Correct. But don't feed the fire...

Hayne's pass to Grothe determined the outcome. Sheer piece of brilliance.
His long break was masterful in getting us into the contest, and the play at the end of it was freakish.
His challenge on Farrar put us in position to pounce
And don't forget that long pass to Grothe (it went backwards too).

Who else won the game for us? Take Hayne out and it's 20-0 (maybe 6 for Parra?).
