Ex-Raider named as victim in murder case
Elizabeth Bellamy and Roderick Campbell
Tuesday, 8 August 2006
The man who died after a wild brawl outside a gay nightclub in Civic was a former young Raider with a promising sports career ahead of him.
Nato (David) Seuala, 23, of Ngunnawal, was named as the deceased in a court hearing yesterday at which the owner of the Cube nightclub was charged with his murder.
The Canberra Times has learned Seuala was a former member of the Canberra Raiders under-21 squad and had also worked as a personal trainer.
A short biography in a Canberra Institute of Technology guide spoke of the accounting student's ambitions.
"Life as an under 21s Canberra Raiders player, personal trainer and student can get quite hectic, but David loves the people contact," it read. "His career goal is to play rugby union for Samoa and become a professional sportsperson."
His fiancee, who did not want to be named, told The Canberra Times late last night the family was in the process of organising his funeral. She declined to comment further. Seuala died on Friday after he was allegedly stabbed during a brawl more than two weeks ago.
