just aired an interview requested by the eels players and they say everything is sweet and that theres no problems with smith and that the players r happy with smith and its not fair to keep blaming smith theres only so much he can do and the blame should be put on the players for not performing this is from the players mouths mainly cayless wagon and pearsen

Odd, considering that we all now that Smith is such a shit coach.

Wonder if they interviewed Dykes, Morris et al?

I caught the tail end of that. Hate to continue sounding negative and cynical but I wouldn't expect the players to say anything different.

Also I'd love to know why so many players have been out of form for so long?

Why do a lot (not all Eg Brad Drew) players suddenly regain form when moving to a different club (Eg Brett Hodgson)?

Hodgson had been suffering from injury almost entirely from mid 2002 until he left us, after Langer dropped his knees in to him in Origin. It seems now he has got back to full fitness.

Well if the players say it's their fault, maybe they should say why they are performing so badly. It's good of them to take some of the blame, and the heat of Smith, but it still doesn't answer the question why are they playing so bad?

You can force a horse to water but you can't make it drink, the players were not obliged to defend their coach; shows good spirit if you ask me. As for Dykes who cares where he was and what he has to say, chances are he is on more money than Smith and contributes very little, he for one should be the first to defend Smith.

Shows good spirit? It shows nothing of the sort. They merely did what just about every single player in the history of the game has done. Defended their coach until they or he leaves the club. Then, and only then, is it open slather.

So if you are to be believed Sean7, if a player like hindy had said that he is not happy at the club because of BS, he would have been shown the door? You must be kidding! Players don't have to defend the coach, they can choose to say nothing and let the innuendo continue. I'm not saying that they are all ecstatic with his methods but there is no-one forcing them to say anything positive. Grothe Jnr was actually quite vehement in his defence in an article in Big League and he left the club at one stage!!! As for Dykes and Morris, I have it on good authority that both are not happy at the situation but they aren't about walk-out.

I thought the most commendable thing about the section was how the Fox crew, Laurie Daley in particular emphasised a number of times that is was NOT a case of the players being pressured to do it, they had requested it. I can think of some media outlets and personalilties which would have said nothing and allowed the public to think that it was a publicity stunt organised my Smith and Fitzgerald.

Well done Fox.

Yeah, while they wouldn't go on air and bag the coach if they were unhappy they would have just said nothing

Some media people (R-- H-----) and people on this forum don't seem to think that shutting up is an option.

I saw some players, Staples, Morris, Petersen and co when waiting at the bus stop on norton street. Said to Staples "whats going on, its terrible" And he said "Don't know mate, we just arent playing as a team" I said, "You dont think it is smith" He said "Can't say brother, We still arent performing to what we should be"

Well if they aren't playing as a team then surely Smith is the person who should be making sure they are.
