Six NRL stars travel to Rwanda to help rebuild a village torn apart by war
By staff writers
February 04, 2009 IT'S not an end-of-season tour that most NRL players would expect to undertake, but in this amazing four-part documentary six stars of league headed to deepest Rwanda to help in the post-genocide rebuilding of a village.
Nathan Hindmarsh, Todd Carney, Justin Poore, Jarryd Hickey, Todd Payten and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, under the guidance of former MP and Canberra great Paul Osborne travelled for 40 hours to a project called the Village of Hope, a settlement just outside the Rwandan capital Kigali.
What they saw and did there changed their lives forever, as the reality of a country torn apart by civil war, and now in the process of rebuilding itself was engrained on them first hand. The documentary of their journey is not pretty, but is compelling, heart- wrenching and at the same time heart-warming.
Watch the players as they recount their experiences on Fox Sports News and Views and the documentary is played in an Australian television exclusive.
