France

Not sure about that, Toulouse have their own youngsters who they bring through at their own pace but there's still a huge logjam of players in the Catalans system, and the result is you end up with guys like Alexandre Mickalezyk who was a great prospect in the French junior teams and even spent a year with the Roosters SG Ball, went back to Catalans and played in the U19s but then could barely get a game for their reserves due to the huge backlog of players waiting for a chance in his position and now has left the club to join Carcassone in the Elite league where he will probably spend the rest of his career.

Shame, the playing talent seems to be there.
Catalans picking up their act, more French clubs joining the RFL system, or someone putting some decent money into Elite One would take them to the next level.

Ugh. This comment triggers me so much, cause its people like you that know next to nothing about league and reckon NRL is better simply cause you live in Australia. Did you not see a full super league/kingstone press nations like Scotland and France beat Tonga and PNG? Absolute f**ktard.
Ok I've triggered a few french fans lol, look I honestly would like to see them do well, but they just don't have the talent at the moment it's a fact. I'm a life long league fan too by the way and international one at that, I hope they prove me wrong.

So, looking at the RLWC predictions on NRL.com and you could be excused in thinking that France isn't in the Cup.

Are the journos on the site just totally ignorant of the French or do they really think that France will be that bad?

The team at NRL.com are discussing and making predictions about the Cup. The Tier 1 Nations are mentioned. Samoa, Tonga, PNG and Fiji are mentioned..Even Italy gets a mention because of Tedesco..It's like they are ignoring France for the very reason us Internationalists are following them and that's because they don't know any of the players as they are all actually French..lol

Here's another side of the 'authentic' debate. If authentic teams actually get through, no one gives a shit because Aussies don't pay attention to anything outside of our own little bubble

Eight of the fourteen nations are guaranteed a spot in the next World Cup. I know of no other sport that does that.

I'd prefer to see just the semi finalists auto-qualifying too.
Or even the top 2 in pools A and B, and the winner of C and D. No actual reason it has to be tied to finals qualifying.
The main problem is that the 3rd place super pool qualifiers pretty much just have to win 1 game 4 years in advance to qualify for a WC.

Won't be an issue when we jump to 16 teams next time.

You say that like there's not every chance they can come up with some wonky super pool concept even with 16 teams.
They could run with the exact system they have now but with an extra minnow in pools C and D, for example.
Or an even weirder 3-2-2-1 format!
Don't under(or over)estimate the geniuses in RL administration!

It's already been stated by the England 2021 bid team that it will be 16 teams with the same format as now.ie Top 3 from pools A & B plus winners of pools C & D.
