Great film of the legendary French 50's teams thanks.
Now anyone with video of Jacques Merquet, alias quicksilver.?
No video Clve but try to get hold of a book called Champagne Rugby. It's documentation about the early French tours.

The french number 6 and captain looked shit, poor kicking game, didn't make any impact running or setting up his backs. I was impressed with some of the french subs in the forwards, really tried to up the intensity ! Some big hits.

All of the outside backs were so small and undersized compared to even the Lebanese players. They would be completely monstered by the pacific island outside backs.

One centre played well in the french side the guy who put on a few tries for his winger with flicks , had a good fend too.

That’s where they lost the game in my opinion. Fages has played 100 SL games and currently plays for St Helens. Barthau has played a handful of games for Catalans. I would have thought they would have led from the front, much like Farah and Moses did for their inexperienced team.

But they were totally outplayed.

The rest of the team matched up pretty well against their opponents.

Looks like they want to give the players who have not played yet a run, because they know that they cannot beat Australia. But dropping Antoni Maria won't make it easier for the French pack to stop a drubbing.

The relatively poor decline of rugby league in France is not by chance. An article informs that you cannot do rugby league as a subject in any university. This has issues with no presence of rugby league in the teaching fraternity of French schools.
Their is also a number of spoiling tactics used by rugby union clubs to offset possible money earning opportunities for French rugby league clubs. One being a French club would plan to host an English rugby league team for a game. They would book the best suitable ground with lighting to ena ble tv coverage. This would be canned by the local council being lobbied by influential rugby union officials. This sort of stuff has been happening for decades. Pretty tough for a code to grow under such circumstances.

Agreed, the french spine went missing or were just outclassed. I thought some of the backs and forwards ripped in and had a real crack. I actually thought this game was one of the higher standard games.

Fascism is alive and well in France, there is a good book on the Vichy government and it's persecution of R.L.

It's called "The Forbidden Game" by Mike Rylance.
Their are a few good articles informing of what has and is going on in France. However France is not alone with this " treatment" of rugby league!

Plan to read the Forbidden Game next week in the lead up to their game in Perth. No doubt will make me support them in the game :)

French R.U. should be boycotted.

Their are many more examples worldwide of the suppression of rugby league. France is but one well documented example. South Africa is another howler. Many other countries as well have rugby union doing their tricks do sabotage rugby league. The general public are oblivious to this.

Italy is another one.

The forbidden game is a great read, so much potential was completely wasted, our sport could be so much different.
Matty Johns spoke about it this morning on triple m. Apparently there is a book called ‘no helmets required’ about rugby league in the USA back in the day as well that is meant to be a good read.

I would suggest compensation is forthcoming? However just to achieve international recognition as a sport will suffice for what rugby league has endured! The game will still grow to its rightfull status although not as easily with the compensation commensurate to the damage affected by rugby union's deceit and sabotage of this great code to date.
