I don't think there is any way you can get onfield sponsors for custom competitions. I think the only way you could do it would be to change the NRL 2003 comp to Winfield Cup, and sacrifice having an nrl competition altogether. Then change the telstra premiership markings to winfield cup markings.
I'm not about to make an 80's patch because I'm perfectly happy with the 90's patch, but I did make 2 things recently that you might like. I have 2 versions of the game installed one for IE and 2004 patch (jerseys rosters etc), and one with original 2003 logos/rosters/jerseys, and 90's teams patch. The second version of the game lets me change things like the ball without having to worry about it affecting my 2004 nrl season.
I made the 80's commemorative ball for last week with nutra grain and nrl logos (you might have seen the dogs carrying them out when walking into Telstra stadium last night on the footy show) to use with the 90's patch.
And I made the jersey that the refs wore last weekend, also to use with the 90's patch.
It was too hard for me to get enough close up pics of 80's referees or the ball etc so I decided on making the commemorative versions, but they would work very well in a game where your using 80's or 90's jerseys.
