I tried it once. Didn't end well. Would've made a funny gif, though.

You need metal pedals with grooves for grip. The plastic pedals mean you get no grip, and then you often end up ass over head.

But yeah - I've seen a few people with major loss of toe skin as a result of riding with thongs.
