Exactly. Leichhardt should be bottom of any funding proposal. It’s not good enough for a professional competition.Just pick a couple of stadiums to fund. We already have SFS, Commbank, Accor that should be be able to be used by more than half of the sides in Sydney anyway
Apparently Vlandys thinks spending $50mill on LO is going to give Tigers a commbank standard stadium to play in lol

yep it only needs Manly, Penrith and Sharks/Dragons to get new stadiums. 6 quality stadiums in a city the size of Sydney is more than enough

haha. How will it be “a complete disaster”. Except in you vladsogynistic mind.
because we've been chopping and changing what we want for over 5 years and now could end up with nothing. If you cant see that the majority of Sydney clubs still playing out of inadequate grounds because our leadership has royally fcked up is a disaster then I cant show you.
Instead of going to war with the govt that funds them they could have taken it on the chin that the timing isnt right for Govt, made sure Penrith is locked in and definite and then sat down with govt again to lock in the next one with a definite date. Id have gone with $200mill to Manly to sort that stadium out next. Honey always attracts more than vinegar.

The current NRL model it has pushed the NSW govt into is fatally flawed. There is no way you are going to get Shark park, Kogorah, LO, Campbelltown, Brookvale, Penrith and Accor to be where they should be on Govt funding. Then Dogs going what about Belmore. Just will never happen. Getting 3 of them to quality 25k stadiums is possible with Accor down the track.

As I predicted would happen when you publicly start to denigrate politicians.

The media tide is turning, good job he is in news ltd pocket.

Footy supremo Peter V'Landys has been forced into a humiliating retreat, announcing the NRL grand final will remain in Sydney despite publicly lobbying against the NSW Government since April.
He managed a huge swipe at NSW premier, Dominic Perrottet, in the process after being embarrassed and handing 'back' Sydney the grand final.

The votes are in and the comments make it clear: NRL supremo Peter V'landys' bid to browbeat the NSW Government into spending a fortune of taxpayers' money on stadiums by threatening to move the grand final out of Sydney has got footy fans offside. Our poll asking whether readers cared where the year's biggest game is held produced clear-cut results, with 79 per cent of people saying they 'couldn't care less', just 14 per cent keen for the match to stay in Sydney and seven percent wanting it switched to Brisbane.

Pollies hate it when the dogs they are feeding turn around and bite their hands. They have very long memories for such treachery.

Are they really ‘footy’ fans though?

Parties have long memories and the Libs will be back in power one day. The bridges you burn today remain cut off to you for a long time. Not to mention Labor now become very wary of any dealings with NRL in case they are next to be slagged off in the media by the chairman. Like I said its 101 dealing with politicians, don't bite the hand that feeds you. And lets forget they have already committed $200mill to clubs and $1.5bill to stadiums. Its not like NRl hasn't done ok out of them!

I imagine Greenberg would’ve dithered during the pandemic and would’ve been bullied by the Nine/News execs. The game would’ve been in massive trouble and for that I’m grateful for PVL getting the game through that crisis. But this fiasco is proof he only has one tactic which may work in boardrooms but pollies are a far more dangerous and smarter animal. They’re now free to dump Penrith’s stadium reno and CoEs of three clubs, save a ton of money and merely have to out bid the other states to get the GF and look good in the process.

He had a solid hand when dealing with News and Nine because he knew they needed the game due to ratings/subscriptions etc. Here he attempted to blackmail the government while also giving them the bidding option. Lunacy! This is so rugby league.

Outsmarted, outplayed. Massive fail for me

You mean getting the nsw govt to pay 8 million for something they were always going to get is a bad result ?

Perrotet doesn’t stand a chance negotiating against vlandys

it’s why they waited to sign the deal for the grand final before talking about cutting off the other funding

losing the nrl grand final would be a major black eye for any nsw govt who is stupid to allow it to happen

But they won’t lose it mate, they now just have to outbid the other states. They won’t mind spending 8 million or more when considering they now don’t have to spend 300 million on stadium renos
