So why not give him some praise then instead of putting the boot in all the time

dolphins and Perth in five years as boss (2 years lost due to covid)

against the wishes of the clubs

stop magnifying his mistakes he knows he stuffed up
- record TV deal for RL
- Allianz
- Parra Stadium
- Penrith Stadium (probably... maybe... probably)
- record NRL sponsorship including the new Westpac sponsorship
- general finances of the game in amazing shape
- expansion (when previous admins have done SFA)

Abdo and Vlandys aren't perfect but that is an impressive list in a few short years and like you point out, most of their tenure has been with a backdrop of covid which has been massively challenging for most businesses.

Allianz and Parra were signed off before Vlandys took charge.

The NRL have no leverage in Perth in regards to a stadium.

Unlike Tasmania, the public demand for a team isn't something that's been around for generations and is there major sport.

The leverage is with the Govt itself, not with the public. for what ever reason (sports tourism + East coast migration in all likelihood) the WA Govt sees an NRL club as something we should have. How much (in $'s investment) they value having one is the unanswered question. You'd hope that the NRL has actually worked that out with them by now!
Is it $400mill value for a new stadium and CofE or $200mill for a hbf upgrade and CofE? I juts hope the NRl is using the opportunity to push hard for something!

Funding for Browne Park has been increased to $54 million with another new stand at the Albert Street end to be built as part of Stage 2 and the current Jack Crow Stand gets demolished from the middle of the year to make way for the new Crow Stand

First look at the new Albert Street stand to be built as part of Stage 2, looks like a new and extended roof for the Nev Callaghan Stand is to be built as well

Queensland Government media release

Dolphin Oval 11.5k.

Kitchener Park proposal for 10k stadium.

Langlands Park redevelopment 5km

Browne Park redevelopment 10k.

There's a proposal for a rebuild or Mackay Stadium.

Sunshine Coast Stadium getting rebuilt.

Queensland Cup could morph into a genuine second division with five or six teams playing at quality venues. The ARLC would be crazy to not make it a fully professional competition to service regional Queensland and metropolitan Brisbane.

What are the plans for the stand on George Street?

There's not much room to plqy with. The current stand is like a bucket seat version of the Arthur Lovell Stand at Kougari Oval.

Any chance of it being converted into corporate suites?

Gil the dill was quoted in the Mercury today stating that all afl clubs have stated and agreed that either we build a new stadium or we don’t get a team. Resorting to threats. They are getting desperate. I can only assume that they want a 20th team as well. Plot thickens. Opposition is growing and threats don’t go well down here.
The new stadium will happen and Tas will come in 2027. It will then be interesting to see what the AFL does if in response to Perth coming in as NRL team 18. The GC Suns (and by extension the Giants) were not even on the agenda until the Titans were announced. Some are saying that Perth will be the 20th AFL team, due to stadium and the fact that every Eagles game is a sell out. But Dockers only average 40k so there are 20k seats available or every week. Seems ludicrous. I am not sure if a Perth NRL club increases the chance of a third AFL club there, or squashes it forever.

The other options for the AFL are Canberra (if a new stadium is a requirement that might kill that), or Darwin/top end (equally ludicrous). I reckon they will stick with 19.

BTW, HBF Park is fine for an NRL team. They can play their opening match (before the AFL season starts), one mid season blockbuster (during AFL bye round) and finals at Optus each season. They can use the drop-in seats for those games if there is no AFL on. They will average 20k with a 10/2 HBF/Optus split. Spend the money on junior development and promotion.

A 35000 seat Commbank Stadium would do Perth Pirates. Rugby an Soccer internationals also. Semi finals etc.

Yeah but it's also completely unneccessary.

Whilst Perth Red harps on about nonsense, I will allow it that the Western Stand is small and outdated at Perth Oval. Build a decent stand on that side with corporate facilities that run the whole length of the ground and you've got a very good 24,000 seat stadium there for rectangle fields.

For 'event' games, you can play them at Optus Stadium provided they agree to bump the movable seats in so it goes to rectangular mode.

New stand costs around 125 million plus

just not worth it unless it’s a total rebuild

even a new stand it’s still not ideal

Yes its fine, with a new corproate stand but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get the WA govt to build a new rectangular stadium. They might baulk at it having spent $150mill on hbf park already but still its worth the ask! At the very least its then the entree into discussing finishing HBF park off.

3 tenants can’t get a modern purpose ground is a joke

even Victoria got it right

hbf park is better than Olympic park but it’s still average

Three niche tenants on the WA landscape. And they've already spent a heap of money on Perth Oval in the last decade, most recently the upgrades for the upcoming Womens World Cup.

They aren't going to drop $350m+ on a stadium for sports most Westerners don't give a rip about.

Then they shouldn’t get a team if most people in wa don’t care about them

how did Melbourne manage it ?

Except for the needless bubble roof structure. It makes it harder to expand AAMI Park in the future.

Thanks for telling me all about Tasmania. Suggest you talk about something you might know a bit about. The stadium is seriously on the nose here. Yeah but you know better. As such up yours mate.

It doesnt have 3 tenants, it currently has 2. And youd have to go back to 2011 and the decision to spend $120mill on Nib stadium as the point mistakes where made. At the time Optus stadium still wasnt agreed so there wasnt an obvious place to build a new stadium and it didnt make much sense to do so without an NRL club anyway.
It might be the Govt is ok with throwing their $150mill investment in HBF park down the drain now there is a very good option of building a new one at Burswood to utilise the serious money spent on the infrastructure of that area for Optus, or it might be they cant justify walking away from that level of public money investment.

At the very least we should be asking them the question, and as minimum demand a further HBF upgrade and CofE for RL in Perth.
