Yeah I think that's a pretty easy provision to make. Pretty sure that's an option for AAMI park as well.

Given though we likely wouldn't host a World Cup until the 2040's or later it's probably not a major issue having the stadium as 40k anytime soon.

The was the original idea for AAMI, but the bubble roof killed tht prospect.

Any Vic WC games would be at Docklands or MCG

A NEW virtual flyover of the Townsville CBD stadium precinct has given another insight into what the Priority Development Area will look like in coming years.

Published on YouTube by Townsville City Council, the video by Hunt Designs shows a bustling area with new buildings, car parks, green spaces and other developments including one with a swimming pool.

The North Queensland Stadium is a joint project of the State Government ($140 million), Federal Government ($100 million), and Townsville City Council, and is supported by both the National Rugby League and the North Queensland Cowboys ($10 million).

This has to be one of the most positive things happening in league right now. No bullshit bickering about what should be built. We're getting a fantastic rectangular stadium purpose built for a rugby league area that has been crying out for it for years.

North Queensland like Newcastle has to be one of leagues greatest strengths. We're easily the dominate code there and get great crowds and ratings despite the cowboys historically being terrible. Best of all we're the only code in town really.

Can't wait to see if finished. Hopefully the fact that we're actually putting money towards the stadium will see the cowboys get a decent deal instead of being gouged like the QLD clubs usually are.

The last game at 1300/DFS/Willows will be sad for me as I went to school next door to the stadium, grew up 5 min drive from it and used to help my old girl set up for weddings in the function room in the western stand in the mid 80's when I was a kid (old girl
was a florist) back when it was a trotting track. I have many fond memories going to games there since they started, the Broncos final in '04 is still the best game at the stadium I have seen.

But the time has come for us to have a proper home.

Whilst there isn't a bad seat in the house, she is well and truly well passed it's use by date and the good people of NQ deserve a decent stadium considering the amount of money that has been spent in the south on it's stadiums. The Gabba, Lang park, Robina and the Carra (x2) upgrades I would hazard a guess would be pusing nearly $1.5- $2 billion all up. Thank christ the federal government broke their trend in not financially supporting sporting venues as I fear we'd still be waiting for this joint to get built.

Once it's built, I'd urge anyone to go up for the weekend when their team is playing. The winters are amazing.

Well it did take a lot of bickering to get it built.

Be interested to see if the Aleague revisit NQ with an excellent stadium like that. Good for everyone if it's utilised more.

I don't think they will in the short term.
I agree a stadium like this needs to be utilised to the max.
Fox are paying the big bucks though and they will want teams in the bigger markets before they even contemplate a return to Nth Qld.

Yeah they risk cannabilising their existing teams though. Proposal for a southern team in Sydney for instance takes in a huge part of Sydney FC's membership.

That's true, but so did the introduction of the Wanderers, and that's been a roaring success.
There's a lot to be said about local derbies, particularly in a small market.

Not to the same degree. Sydney FC were never as popular in the west as they are in the south. East/west divide has always been more pronounced.

Also the NSW market is way too crowded for the Aleague already. 40% of their teams from NSW. 10% from Queensland.

Funny thing is they went to the central coast simply for the stadium. They'd be better punting them & going with another Queensland team.

Maybe. The Mariners have done very well for themselves considering their small market and limited corporate support.. They've certainly been helped by having ESFC, WSW and the Jets close by.
Personally, I don't want a southern Sydney team btw.
I think a stand alone Wollongong/South Coast team is a better fit, plus Canberra, and a 3rd Melbourne team.

Nice!! Will this stadium be closer to town? I remember going to a game in the 08 World Cup and it was a fair way out of town.
