the article doesn't mention the amount of money we have in bank etc for the fitout, the cost has blown out to 35 mil so they are going to finance it and keep their own cash in bank. whilst they don't have the full amount of money to just pay for the fitout using credit in this instance is a better use of funds, equity and assets etc

the profit from the club will service the loan fairly quickly.
I was just going off the cash and managed funds balance in the last annual report in 2024.

what was that ground the WNRL game (Brisbane v someone) today was played at? Looked like maybe East Brisbane Tigers. A cool looking venue.

Its official name is "Totally Workwear Stadium" aka Langlands Park. Its located in Brisbane and is the home ground of the Brisbane Tigers in the QLD Cup (Easts Tigers).

Yes that is it. Thanks. I like that little main stadium. It looked good with a pretty decent crowd in.

The article states they are only required to play 9 games a year at accor and along with the bulldogs they are the only regular full time tenants at the stadium, so it is basically a zero chance the government will reduce that and decrease the financial viability of the stadium.

Within these bad circumstances there is still the opportunity to play 3 games a year at allianz. Now souths may still want to sell a game to perth, magic round or central coast each year, thats up to them. But at the very least they should keep the gadhu round game there and they should start playing the roosters at allianz every year, I don't believe the government would refuse more games being played at their own venue.

Going forward when the contract is renegotiated past 2030, the best outcome in my opinion would obviously be the opposite and have the majority of souths home games at allianz, they should be able to replicate the roosters success and significantly grow crowds by playing at a stadium people want to go to regardless of form.
Accor should retain some home games for a few reasons: souths are one of the big sydney clubs and can/will draw crowds bigger than allianz can hold (especially finals), good friday needs to stay where the easter show crowd is every year, the stadium and government needs to retain content if it is ever going to justify the inevitable upgrade/redevelopment/rectangularisation in the future.

Queensland government dumps Gold Coast light rail stage four

By Dominic Cansdale and Mackenzie Colahan
https://www.abc.net.au/goldcoast/

In short:

Stage four of the Gold Coast light rail has been cancelled, with buses to carry commuters instead.
Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie says the project was ditched due to cost blow outs and community opposition.

What's next?

The state government will draw up plans for a rapid bus service instead.

Plans to extend the southern Gold Coast's multi-billion-dollar light rail project have been scrapped by the Queensland government.

Stage four of the light rail — a 13-kilometre tram track from Burleigh Heads to Coolangatta — was estimated to cost between $3.1 billion and $7.6 billion.

But a Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning review found the cost could now be between $5.7 billion and $9.8 billion "due to uncertainty about deliverability timeframes".

Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie also cited significant community opposition to the tram line being extended further south. "This is a line in the sand for the community that we promised we would review it independently," he said. "The overwhelming opposition from residents on the southern Gold Coast was clear."

Mr Bleijie said the state government would instead look at rolling out a "multi-model transport corridor" including more frequent bus services.

But the southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce has described the decision as "one of this government's greatest failures".

Bulldogs should just revert to how it was pre Souths that the Easter Show game was always a Bulldogs home game (usually versus the Broncos, but I could see the Dragons filling that void pretty easily). If you guys move stadium, then you give up that right to the game. Part of what makes it attractive is the recipical membership between the two clubs. Without that, we are better off just going with a club that will turn up.

If i was the NRL I would help the Bunnies out by dealing with Stadium Australia and saying that each Sydney club will play at least 1 home game at ANZ provided Bunnies are allowed out of that deal.

There is a lot of things that could be done to provide more big events at accor, just look at where good friday/kings birthday games started and grew to.

Off the top of my head the week before good friday whilst the easter show is on next door, you could easily build 2 event games on that weekend and then also get easter monday back there.

The big problem now though is the stadium is not suitable for rectangle sports and really needs a rebuild to attract content from more teams.

Unfortunately, the Nrl has no direct power on where clubs decide to play home games and even when they control the games in the finals, they let them be played at the dump that is shark park.

In a perfect world the clubs, nrl and other sporting codes would be working with the government to bring more games and build them into highly attended events so they can justify rebuilding accor when the time is right.

True but the NRL could just throw some money at the clubs to convince them to do the right thing by the rest of the competition. It is all negotiable.

South’s should sack Solly and get a new ceo who starts being respectful to the nsw govt and admitting it was their mistake and ask for their benevolence

And stop running media campaigns with fans saying the govt has to let them out of it

They had the pm on their side and still stuffed it up

Yep. Solly has been ordinary in his job as Souths CEO. I mean he is the one who signed the lease knowing no upgrades were coming to Accor. He was explicitly told that before signing the lease extension, but signed it anyway. Then when he saw how good Allianz turned out, the whingeing started.

Further, you won't get Kamper, the Minister for Sport to change his mind if you berate Minns. Kamper is Minns' closest friend in the Ministry. They're known to be best mates. Also Minns is in a different faction of the ALP than Albanese, so Albo's influence on Minns would be somewhat limited.

I was listening to Denan Kemp on SEN 2 days ago going on about the South's stadium deal and he was very much (to my knowledge)being very ignorant on the matter and fully behind South's.

Can peeps confirm for me this abbreviated version-

south's agreed to stay at Accor on the proviso that the stadium was going to get upgrades, upgrades got turned off so in 2021 (?)the stadium deal was then re-negotiated by Solly to be heavily more in favour of souths (more guaranteed cash per game/lower hiring fees)due to the cessation of the stadium upgrades?
