The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Dolphin (Kayo) Stadium (privately owned) was upgraded with Govt money. It's not like it can't be done
Definitely can be done, the local council was a long term sponsor of the club but no government is ‘obliged’ to pay for a reno on property that’s privately owned. But there was local support where it’s a bit different in Sydney. Wasn’t there a shitstorm when Parramatta Council sponsored Parra’s jersey, waste of taxpayer money and all that?

One option for Sharks is they could sell their stadium to the council for a dollar making it a public asset but on the condition they bring the ground up to NRL standard. There’s still the issue of the ground being boxed in and difficult to see how they get it to 20k capacity, though.

Problem is in NSW, most local councils don't have the financial resources to maintain a stadium at expected NRL standards. It's why stadiums like Leichhardt Oval and Kogarah have deteriorated like they have.

you could do it.

you'd need to completely knock over the ET and Porter stands and create an L Shape double level stand that wraps around.

the rest stays more or less as it is with upgrades to the rest of the facilities

Havent even got the LC done after all that money. Having to borrow money now to get it done. And zero stadium improvements. So Cronulla.
Point one the developer stalled for over 12 months to allow the LC to start. They had to wait til the building shell was handed back to the Sharks.
They borrowed money because they could, they had the assets to cover the loan , plus the Kareela LC which is profitable.
Point 2 .Xenia Constructions officially established on site presence on Aug 18 2025.
Site establishment works are underway.
Facade demolition & structural works are expected to commence mid Sept 2025
Fit out works to following early 2026, targeting a mid-to-late 2026 club opening.
I accept the ground is not up to scratch, embarrassingly so for semis.Would not argue for semis elsewhere ATM.

However as to your parting shot ,the club has had many ups & downs over the years, no question. That being said
they have an asset base ,own their ground , a building mainstream street of Cronulla(leased)and will have 2LC to provide cash flow to sustain a loan.
Let's see if your new club can build an asset base , a new LC and have a competitive team .And I'll be the first to cheer you on.

I can guarentee within 5 years they will be in a lot better positon than the Sharks.

For a start "Perth is set to have an NRL Centre of Excellence as part of the Perth Bears expansion, with the WA government committing to fund a facility at the Malaga Sports Precinct development, near the Perth CBD. The project is a community asset within the Malaga development, with construction expected to follow the team's entry into the NRL. "

That's one up on the Sharks imaginary one.

I'm sure a lot of this will never happen, but interesting to see some of the proposed changes to the rail network in Sydney (https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw...rain-lines-across-sydney-20250910-p5mtyw.html)

For the proposed Metro West expansion to Randwick, there's an opportunity to lobby to get a station close to Moore Park, which would do wonders for the accessibility of the ground.

CommBank Stadium arguably becomes one of the most accessible grounds in the city if the Epping to Parramatta & Kogarah to Parramatta lines ever come to light, especially with both expected to use the new Parramatta Metro station which is closer to the ground.

Not in our lifetime unfortunately. Especially with Labor in power.

Exactly. That's a dream plan that will never come to fruition under this govt.
They are anti metro and anti-rail infrastructure.
John Graham, the transport minister has already come out today and said their only plan is to build the Woollarah station. Wow. What a great rail policy that is!!
Minns has already come out and stated that there will be no more metro built in Sydney before the 2040's.
The only reason the current metro's are being finished is because contracts were already locked in place.

The Kogarah - Parramatta line would be a game changer for Sydney public transport.
The previously planned Miranda - Norwest metro would also be equally ground-breaking.
Sadly, nothing will happen under Labor, who have a record of doing nothing re rail.
It must be remembered that it was Labor that tore up one of the largest tram systems in the world in Sydney during the 50's and 60's, and it is only now that we are trying to replace them at exorbitant costs.

I know this is off topic, but it's relevant in the fact that great public transport makes getting to stadiums easier.

Well said. But Mr Hull won’t ever give credit where it’s due for surviving without a club for 7 years. Heard the rumours Perth are actually struggling already and they haven’t even started yet.

It's funny. I lived in NSW throught the Bob Carr years where labor built nothing. I'm in QLD now and it's Labor you vote if you want anything built.
